| I really appreciate your article. This is the reality and people knowingly ignore it. Our state being the reason for Congress to be in power, got a raw deal and our ministers have no tongue to protest anything. Our CM is fond of chanting Gandhi mantra and politicians worry about making money. On the other side, our mega stars believe more in talent from other states and our people are forced to believe the same. Andhra people getting crazy about Rajani's film is a classic example. Our scholars should unite and guide the ignorant politicians for the self realization of our Telugu pride. The one reason could be media also. If you ask a Telugu guy about classical dance, they know only Bharatanatyam. They did not know the richness and ancient culture of Kuchipudi. A language gets prominance by the number of people who use it. If you see a list of words that got into English dictionary, Telugu has a very few. Our people are fond of anything coming from outside. Why should we say arangetram ( this is being used by most of telugu websites) ? why can't we say rangapravesham. Most of us think anything classical is just from neighboring state, whereas Thyagaraja, Purandar das,Balamuralikrishna made a large contribution to Carnatic music. Our Government made no effort to treat/greet the clasical pundits or encouraged the classical arts in Hyderabad. Just with minor support given at the center, the neighboring state party could muster all top notch positions in the central cabinet and could divert all major projects to their own state. Our state leaders are large in number but sit and watch all this quietly. If this goes on like this, I wouldn't be surprised to see one day, all theaters in Andhra are screening other langauge films, all the movies are just dubbed and none made originally in Telugu...and Telugu may cease to be considered as a language by UN law.

I completely empathise with your point of view, but disagree with the reasons you have offered for the present status of Telugu. Sure there is apathy towards the use of Telugu in administrative domain of governance in AP, but extinction of Telugu in public domain is essentially due to the way Telugu is taught in schools. Unfortunately, Telugu language teaching has adopted Sanskrit language methodology that gives more importance to recitation and literal meaning of the word rather than understanding of the word, its interpretation, social context and suggested meanings of the literary work, as done in English or Kannada language teaching in recent times.
As a student I remember reading Potana, Tikkana and Srinadhudu in Telugu reader and literally hating to mug-up pratipadartham and Tatparyam except for Vemana padyalu without enjoying any of the sounds of ancient language. Instead I used to enjoy non-detail that had biographies of great people in ‘vyavaharika bhasha’. This way, Telugu teachers have scared me out of Telugu language and forced me to take up Hindi and learn my language (Telugu) through news papers, magazines, detective novels and popular novels. In such case, should I blame Government or Telugu language teachers for this mess?
I believe most of the Telugu students like me are scared out of Telugu by the wrong way of teaching the language at school level rather than Government’s limited use of Telugu. Please try thinking in an inverted pyramid model, if we can produce lot of educate youth who know their language well and love it, they would naturally make Telugu an administrative language. Because it’s a difficult job as this need a change in entire Telugu teaching principles and the fraternity most of the intellectuals like you are choosing to show the wrong side of the argument by blaming Government. I am sure you pretty well know what happened to the ‘Telugu numbering to the APSRTC buses in Hyderabad”, it became a mockery of Telugu rather than promotion of it. If Government takes steps to promote Telugu that’s what is going to happen. It’s our responsibility to make Telugu lovable. We need to take lessons from Kannada. The way their literary masters have adopted Kannada language teaching in to the 20th century language needs without loosing its essence is laudable. Do we have such masters? Do we have such intentions? Do we have such broad based thinking? Can we be free of our slavery to Sanskrit that has destroyed itself and leading us to destruction? These are questions that need answers.
