It is a splendid article! Tha analogy used in the story - message couldn't have been conveyed better. Hats off to you Nayana.
I love Telugu too but I don't see the article as about language at all. There are some books in English that I read when I was pursuing my Bachelors Degree but I didn't appreciate those enough. Even though my linguistic skills are about the same - at least when considering the texts in question - I understand and appreciate those much better now after 10 years. If this is the case with mundane books what to speak of Geeta? No matter what language is used the boy might still not have appreciated enough what he read at that time even after discounting 'the factor of losses in translation'. But it cleanses him from inside out for sure.

Aaa madhya oka english cinema choosaanu...Crash...It has a character in it...a black man...who sees racism or rather imagines racial discrimination in the most mundane things in life...i am afraid you remind him...The author's very first statement...as far as i could understand...talks about the hymns in Gita which are in sanskrit. Taatparyam telugulo undochchuga. Because the title simply says'Why do we read Geeta?'..Its impossible to do away with those sanskrit hymns, regardless to which language you translate Gita. Even english translation has sanskrt hymns written in english with english purport to those hymns. Trust me sir, i dont have any problem with any good literature being transalted into telugu for the benefit of the telugus. But what i fail to see is your so called abuse of telugu people. Gita is something difficult to comprehend from your very first reading. Grandpa meant 'telugu version chadavaga chadavaga ardhamavuthundi....kangarupadaku ani' .....kadantaara? Anyways my point is how can you conclude that those who acknowledge the sanskritic foundation for all modern indian languages or love towards sanskrit or Urdu or anyother language as making one's own mother tongue subservient to Sanskrit/Urdu etc....I love telugu sir,....but i am afraid you are drawing radical conclusions out of simple things for reasons i better not mention...All i can say is look west if you are looking for respect for your roots.....not in india...

I am waiting tp.com to increse the size of unicode based Telugu font, and I will be happy to write in telugu. Loving ones language is universal. What is your reason to love Sanskrit? There are great literatures in other language, do you read them in thier original language? Many of sanskrit works are translated into English and other languages for the benefit of the native speakers. You did not insist that they should read them in Sanskrit only? Why Telugu people are subjected this abuse? Any good literature from any language should be translated into telugu for the benefit of Telugu people. Do you have a problem with that? Read the title and the the very first staement author wrote: 'Why do we read Geeta, even if we can't understand a Sanskrit word?:.
What part you did not undersatnd? What moral the author is teaching the boy here? Be stupid and just blindly follow even if you don't understand a word. This is what you want? Language is the POWER and it is the shared experience of a healthy society.

First of all, i really fail to understand why love
towards one's own mother tongue transforms into bellicosity towards other(in this case sanskrit). You called this a 'silly and meaningless story' and used to 'mind control'(i wonder what does that mean). May be if some Tom publishes a story explaining the virtues of a book of another religion, that would appeal to your senses and tastes. Guys like you talk about Telugu being neglected, but always love to flaunt their eloquence in English. Tell me why didn't you right the same letter in telugu. I am not a hypocrite, so i prefer English. As per the story i found it very thought provoking. Regardless to which language Gita is translated, the hymns remain very much sanskrit. So may be the grandfather in the story was reading a telugu version with telugu purport and the kid failed to understand the same telugu version due to his age constraints. But the symbolism and the analogies drawn in the story are simply superb. Cleansing of a coal basket=Cleansing of Mind. I wonder how that could be silly and meaningless. Probably, its beyond your own comprehension. As for Telugu being a subservient language to Sankrit, senor, Sanskrit is extinct and Telugu is still being spoken. I think your mind is twisted enough to say that telugu society will not advance as long as we glorigy 'already extinct' sanskrit. Because negating Sanskrit equates rejection of one's own ROOTS. And reading Bagawad Gita is not just glorification of Sanskrit language. And trust me telugu society or language will not advance with this kind of jingoism and hyprocrisy.
This is for the author, that was really inspiring. All i can say is, 'KRISHNAM VANDE JAGATGURUM'. I expect to see more of such articles extolling the virtues of The Lord Jagannatha.

This kind of silly meaningless stories are used to mind control. If the boy had any common sense, he would have realized he can't carry water in a leaked basket. If Geeta was tranlated into Telugu and if the boy heard every day he would have learned some meanigful lessons. Telugu society will not advance as long as we glorify Sanskrit and make Telugu a subservient to Sanskrit.
