Murali, You are wrong. Majority of people taking Sanskrit to score high marks is a fraud. Telangana was under Muslim rule for 400 years, if our ancestor did not preserved our language, Hyderbad state would have been third Pakisthan and everyone would be studying in Urdu medium. I agree with the author that we must force everyone to study Telugu upto Inter and beyond if needed. In the digital age, the usage of telugu language will increae through emails and other communications. We can advance the Telugu langauge by simplifying the script and increase the useage of accha (pure) telugu words to avoid sanskrit and English words. I have no problem in accepting two language formula - Telugu and English, and teach 3rd language Hindi for 2 years, may be in 7th and 8th gardes. Not studying Telugu is like poking your eyes with your own fingers. What sanskrit teachers are doing is fraud and they should be punished. In Engineering and Medicine admission, only science and math scores should be taken into account, and skip language marks to discourage Sanskrit high scores. PS: My first 10 years of education took place in a singleroom/single teacher rural school in Telugu medium. It did not stopped me comming to USA 40 years ago and did my MS in Computer Science.

Posted by: Mr. srikar srikar At: 20, Jul 2007 8:34:26 PM IST ____________________________________________________ Good hold on the language is extremely important for communication. Even though many of the Indian ( Espcially Andhra Pradesh) Engineers are brilliant, the communication skills of a large chunk of them are Pathetic - forget English .. they are not even able to communicate in Telugu because they never learnt it properly. Moreover, learning Sanskrit at the expense of Telugu is no solution for a guy aspiring to be an engineer. The topic of discussion here is .. whether Sanskrit at +2 level is harming Telugu - I would say NO. It is due to incompetency and inefficiency of the officials and inflexibility of the Telugu Teachers, people are opting for Sanskrit.

You said it Murali - said it right! These people CAN NOT DO A ZILCH ABOUT DEVELOPING TELUGU but start blaming other languages for their own faults - just a way to cover up their own incompetency by blaming Sanskrit. If they think 90% marks is the issue then let them award 90% in Telugu too - who objects to it?
