| Dear Prof. Chandrasekar Reddy garu,
Thank you for another wonderful article. I wish I had read some of these books written by Seema writers. Most of these authors reflected the symptoms of our society, not the root cause of our problems. After independence we all thought India will become a progressive society socially and economically and we will join the other developed countries. Instead India chooses a Socialist economic system and also did not do much to stop India's population growth. India was a dirt poor country at the time of independence and since then our population has tripled. In spite of all the progress we made, still India's per capita income remained $500 US dollars as compared to neighboring country Malaysia with $2500. Also India’s 11 Five-year plans miserably failed to uplift the rural India.
It is so sad when our authors divide our society into Upper caste and Lower caste. Many of our social ills are due to lack of economic development and very high rural unemployment. Hunger does not differentiate a man born in upper caste or lower caste. Poverty coupled with ignorance, some people misbehave or mistreat fellow poor people. I hope authors see this underlying problem and fight for economic development and 100% literacy. I lived in America for 40 years and saw the social transformation between the two races – Blacks (slaves) and Whites (slave masters). I am not saying everything is solved here but they are making progress. In A.P, we all belong to same race, same language and same culture. If we educate all our people and bring full employment, I guarantee our social division will disappear. I am witnessing these changes among the US born Indian children who are marrying outside of their caste, language, religion and race. I would also like to see our religion introduce Telugu prayers with more meaningful teachings to enlighten the masses and keep them away from the senseless rituals. Our Communist brethren should not use poverty as a vehicle for their political survival, rather fight for social change and cooperate for economic reforms to move people out of poverty permanently. Thank you again for your wonderful article.
On a personal note: I hope authors will stop using the words like Upper/lower caste, agra kuulalu, BC, SC, ST etc and start identifying them as Rich or poor, Educated or uneducated, Urban or rural, young or old, and men or women.
