And of course talking about the Castes, Mr. Parabrahma Sastry, whose findings are the basis for this article is from the so called 'Upper Castes' who, according to the author are supposed to oppose research - Aint he using the the research done by a so called 'Upper Caste' person to level an allegation against the same group that they 'ARE' (not 'were') opposed to research? :))

A very nice and informative article by Padma Rao garu. High time research was done from the non-sanskrit angle. I also agree, they should have translated upanishads/vedas first into telugu, so that many people would have appreciated the greatness of our heritage. We are lucky, Dr. (Dasarathi) Rangacharya has been able to complete this.
Kudos to Padma Rao Garu. Sir, pl. keep posting such great articles.

Well said! But the research has to be Truly Impartial whatever may be the outcome - The means could be Archeology, Linguistics or even Genetics - but the truth is what matters - The truth which has no place for any bias or misinterpretation. If such a thing happens, the outcome would be accepted by one and all!

A good and informative article, at least for the likes of me!
Cultural traditions are like an iceberg. 90% of the information is submerged and remains unseen. Our traditional method of evaluating history is generally in terms of kings, dynasties and pedagogic literature. Common people's life-style and aspirations are seldom mentioned or noticed.
I was taken aback after going through Telugu University's dictionary of fisheries (matsyakara nighantuvu). There are hundreds of pure Telugu words in it, which must have been used by fishermen for thousands of years for their daily use. Not a word of Sanskrit there!
After centuries of domination, the upper classes and upper castes would be very reluctant to yield ground and submit history for impartial re-evaluation. Today we have many modern techniques for doing this by means of archaeology, linguistics etc. One need not bother about the vested interests as long as impartial research is carried out.
The author should be encouraged to come out with a series of articles that put forth his ideas in shorter instalments.
