Your article is interesting but the facts (or statistics) you have used in it need to be supported by appropriate references to the published sources. For example when you said 42% of TN population is Telugu - is it based on the Census? And for categorising someone as Telugu - what criteria are used? Ability to: write/read/speak, or ability in one or two of them only? Or a self-made assertion or statement that a person considers him(or her)self to be a Telugu? Rao Pamganamamula

The research article by Ramesh is very interesting. The real problem is survival of Telugu language among Telugus in Tamilnadu. It's political and Tamils won't allow Telugu to develop in TN by providing Telugu in schools where Telugus are numerous. In fact, Telugus themselves are more interested in DMK & AIDMK politics and are the leaders at various levels. They speak in Tamil and oppose Telugu learning in schools. Unnava Lakshminarayana's Andhra map was responsible for losing Telugu districts for Andhra Pradesh, according to the author. T.Prakasam was opposed Andhra state without Madras city. Otherwise, Andhra would have come into existence in 1948 itself. The discussion whether linguistic states are good or bad at this time is not appropriate. The entire problem is an employment problem. If full employment is there, nobody bothers about language of the state. It is natural if Telugus become Tamil in TN just as Telugus become American in the USA. Its a natural phenomenon. The only thing that could be done is that some Telugu research scholars may try to collect some words and phrases used by the Telugus before they completely disappear. Patram

Dear Ramesh, Thank you for the wonderful article. Do these people identify themselves as telugu people or Andhra people? I am especially curious about people who are living there for more than 200 years. In your articles you talk about Telugu people who are living in Tamilnadu, Karnataka, maharstra and Orissa. What is their definition of telugu people? What is your definition of Telugu people? You said they use accha Telugu words as their mother tounge and is that your yardstick? I appreciate your answer. Regards,
