Posted by: Mr. Rahul Reddy At: 22, Jan 2008 10:32:02 AM IST ABK Prasad should be happy if India goes back to stoneage. Then he doesn't have the problem of the
'bad monkey' spreading pollution in India.
He discovered that the pollution 'mistake' was committed by America after the World War. What a great discovery! I hope he wouldn't blame America for his car/scooter leting out smoke, resulting in pollution. Mercury might be harmful but he should not blame the exporters for it. Without Indian importers mercury won't enter India. His mercury statistics reveal that exports from China 627 tons and Russia 267 tons, whereas American exports are only 165 tons. It only shows that all countries irrespective of their political structure involve in exports and imports. The simple common sense is that Industrialisation causes pollution. Research is taking place to find pollution free energey.
He thinks that imports into India are dumped. Dumping involves selling at prices below cost which is not a fact. He objects to liberalisation, privatisation, and globalisation. It means free market without restrictions. Even after 60 years of Independence, India has not developed, mainly because of the policies of socialism, protection and public sector. It is proved beyond doubt by China that a country develops by faithfully implementing capitalism. Also Jyothi Basu said that policies of socialism will not be feasible in India.
American workers object child labour because products in countries like China and India are made by cheap labour, including child labour. Objecting child labour is not imperialism. Prasad talks about bonds by World Bank. Several govternments raise money in America by issuing bonds. The bonds are bought/held by individual investors and interest is paid on those bonds by the issuing organisation. As Prasad thinks, the World Bank is not paying the US Govt. with excessive profits/interests. US Govt. also issues bonds and pays interest periodically until the principal is paid up. Pollution has become a politcal problem. Bush is not pursuing policies to contain pollution but an overwhelming majority wants to tackle this problem. In this sense, Bush is not America; Summers cannot be America.
