Whether it's east or west a male is a male and a female is a female. The only difference is weather. When we are using dhoti we are feel east even after switching over to trousers / pants still we feel that we belongs to east we forget this from other culture (west).

I haven't thought about commerce behind beuaty contests. It seems to make perfect sense

I frankly dont know how many people would appreciate you for publishing your thoughts. Besides what you said lets see 2 more sides---
Westernern culture has more of women exposure and sex than the other cultures, which is kind of equality. Because it shows that body is not all for what they care, here people have bodily things with whom they dont care they are just kind of anwsering their biological quetions. Which is kind of good because it is kind of showing that no one cares about body and dont form relations based on it.
The other side is that i totally agree wiht what you said , but over exposure of anything leads to kind of explosion where it comes back to where it started . nowadays their are switching back to natural cosmetics and saying and discovering newly that many things used in cosmetics are carcinogenic. So the point is we are returning back to the point where we started( example lon hair is becoming a new fashion instead of pony tails etc and also pepole use black mad as facial mask). Their is a saying " perugutata verugutat korakee". So what goes back has to come back, it may be slower but sure is to come back at one point or other.
Seeing the lighter side of it people will become so frustated seeing to this artifcial beauties etc and cosmetic surgeries so that they will just want to remain different by being all natural and just stand up for themselves and who their are.
Persepective is all what counts
