Sathya Harishchandra a classic kannada movie produced 45 years ago by KCN Gowda, directed by Hunusur Krishnamurthy with melodious music by pandyala. It is now been released in Eastman colour as a tribute to veteran actor Dr.Rajkumar on his birth anniversary. It is our tribute to him to watch the same movie in Eastman colour after four and half decades. It is said; the hues of places, costumes of kings, queens and goddesses and the DTS effects of dialogues, background music–musical tracks upgraded the movie which made marvels for today’s audience.
But, the question arises about its contemporariness, as to whether its proclamation “sathyamarga” is still stands relevant to life or for filmy screen only. Of course! It is my long standing desire also, what I have felt in catching an unique message about this epic story, to be shared with one and all.
If we review this old epic story once again, and to find its values for the present and hence forth young generation, I felt our ancient sages depicting morality through historical events of classic nature is everlasting. We are bound to adopt the principles contained therein with some sort of moderation.
Therefore, in following such ethics especially while giving promises to others, it comes to our notice in routine situations of our life, and we have to think more and more again, in view of the instances of the old epic story of Sathya Harishchandra.
Harishchandra(Rajkumar) king of Ayodhya, faces tough tests in life following a challenge between Vashishta (Ashwath) and Vishwamitra (Udayakumar). While Vishwamitra asks Vashishta to show one person who follows sathyamarga, Vashishta mentions Harishchandra. Vishwamitra is not convinced and wants to test Harishchandra. Thus begin king’s problems and goes very miserable up to the end. Any way, the maharaja Harishchandra will come over from all such difficulties and problems without compromising in his unflinching faith of Truth, as is shown in the movie as the Rajkumar enacted the key roll very tremendous, Pandaribai as queen chandramthi and others put their good efforts in making the movie Very success and so as to conveying its everlasting message to the universe. As the movie was super hit one also won state and national awards; during the time.
