Here is a Message from American Telugu Association (ATA) President
Preparations for ATA 8th conference to be held in Chicago on July 2 – 4, 2004 are coming along really well. Under the leadership of Dr.Chimata Murthy, convener the whole Telugu community of Chicago is doing a fabulous job in putting together this mega event. In last few weeks, the registrations on line and off line have picked up greatly. Hotel rooms, blocked for the conference at two hotels, Hyatt and Double Tree have been completely sold out. Now ATA has blocked 400 additional rooms at Sofitel, just across the conference site. Based on current registrations and room reservations at the hotels we are expecting an attendance of between 6000 to 8000 people.
There are 30 conference committees, working diligently on various tasks. Food committee is planning to serve the delicious Telugu “Vindu Bojanam”. Cultural committee has planned 3 days of entertainment with mix of excellent, selected local talent and several famous artists from India.
There will be “Astavadanam”, “Kavi Sammelanamulu”, CME, spiritual seminars, youth activities and various forums suited to all walks of life. This time, we have also planned a Golf tournament for our Golf lovers.
We have several artists and performers, who have confirmed and few others are yet to be confirmed. We will update the list in few days and post it on our web. We have invited Honorable Chief Minister Dr. Y. S. Rajsheakar Reddy to the conference. He has expressed inability to attend the conference due to Assembly sessions during that time, he said he would try, if not he has promised to send a delegation to the conference.
Following are some of the highlights of the conference:
Awards / Banquet night entertainment by P.Susheela and Gangadhar
Inaugural dance with a theme of Telugus settled in America with more than 60 dancers.
Performances by music group headed by famous music director Koti, Pasumarthy dance group, Gummadi Gopalakrishna drama group, mimicry by Siva Reddy, folk songs by Chalapthi Rao and live dances by movie stars yet to be finalized.
Literary giants Padma Vibushan Dr. C. Narayana Reddy and Padmasri Naga Phani Sarma, famous producer Rama Naidu, Philanthropist and businessman Sri G V K Reddy are among the confirmed VIP guests.
Several Gurus and Swamis are also invited to enlighten the attendees. ATA board, organizers and hundreds of volunteers are eagerly waiting to showcase the upcoming mega event.
