The importance of Scriptures

The boundaries we place ourselves in due to our limited intelligence, the conditioning of our souls and the material engagements of our senses are primarily the reasons behind our narrow minded concept of life. We value our education which teaches us to believe in Newton’s laws, theories of evolution etc. Although we have not seen Newton nor can prove evolution theories personally, we gladly accept it because our education is preaching us. But when it comes to scriptures, we have all kinds of doubts in its validity. Isaac Newton who strongly believed God's providential role in nature proved the essence of the Creator to his colleagues in many ways. In one such incident, he builds a model of the universe and places it on his table. When his scientist colleagues enter his room and immediately see that beautiful model of the universe Newton created, their first question was 'WHO MADE IT?'. Newton answers them that nobody made it, it just appeared here. His colleagues were thinking he was joking and asked the same question again 'No seriously, Who made it?'. Newton again answers, 'Nobody made it. It just happened to be here.' This went on for a while with his colleagues asking the question again & again and getting frustrated with the same answer Newton is giving them every time. They were not convinced that it did not have a creator and wanted to know desperately who created it? At that point Newton asks them ' You are not able to believe that this small model on my table did not have a source or creator, how do you believe that this big universe does not have Source/Creator?' Let us put some logic and try to find around us an object, which does not have a source. A chair, a computer, a computer program, a person, a cat, a tree, a watch, an insect, a building etc. Everything we see around us has a source from which they originate. When everything has a source, why is it so difficult to understand this creation has a Source/Creator? 10 to 15 people (intelligences) work hard to maintain a computer program for an organization and yet we see failures & corrections all the time, but the intelligence behind this creation is so perfect that the program always works and never fails. Everyday the Sun rises on the east and sets in the west; plants supply us oxygen to breath; Animals, plants, humans share resources and there is abundance of resources for all the lives. So the intelligence (Creator) behind such a perfect organization cannot be considered ordinary. Coming to the point, when one believes in such a Creator/Source, one has to seek to know & understand the Creator. All religions have scriptures that details the knowledge about the Creator. We should not turn a blind eye to the contents in Scriptures. Just as our learning process from school textbooks develop beliefs & faith, one has to also seek scriptural knowledge and build a faith. After all we are learning or trying to learn and understand the most important subject matter, our Source. A child is always happy with his mother, seeks her refuge and depends on her for the maintenance. Similary our original happiness lies with we understanding our Source, the Creator and seeking that refuge. So scriptural content should be understood with great care as it deals with the very important subject matter about the Source. Sometimes, it does become difficult for us to believe in everything Scriptures mention. But that is because of our own limited intelligence and narrow-minded concept of life. When a bird approaches a small pond it meets a frog from that pond and starts conversation. It says to the frog 'Frog, You live in such a nice big place (pond). But I have seen several worlds hundreds and thousand times bigger (rivers, Oceans) than your world'. The frog laughs at the bird and it's stupid theories. It says' I live in such a big world. I have lived all my life here. Many of my ancestors lived and died here and my younger generations live here. We have never seen any bigger worlds in our lives. I don't believe in your stupid theories.' Because of the limited intelligence and narrow mind the Frog was unable to believe the Bird's words. So let us think twice before discarding content from the scriptures. Let us accept that our knowledge is very limited like the frog and try to build faith in the Scriptures to understand the all-important subject of the Creation & Source.
