My days are usually hectic with new baby, work, grocery, cooking and all this takes a lot out of me. I keep juggling a lot but once in a way I tell myself that I should slow down and look back at things or just do something nice for once. My projects are usually huge and they never materialize, I just console myself that I have no time. But I learnt something during my vacation to India when we visited my parents in Hyderabad last month. It was a wonderful reunion after many years and after settling down for the night I woke up with the door bell ringing followed by my mother thanking some one. I got up and saw there was an old lady leaving the house, meanwhile I heard my baby and ran to attend the cry. The next day I was up and about and was trying to make friends with my parents new dog, I saw from the terrace the same lady closing the gate. My curiosity took the best of me, I went into the kitchen where my mother was cooking and asked who that lady was. I was told that she moved into the locality an year back and she collects flowers from all the houses and distributes them to every one in the colony. I was pretty surprised and asked my mother for the reason ; She simply enjoys doing so, was the answer. Next day I went out to greet this old lady and asked her why she gives flowers to everyone, her answer was very simple almost matter of fact - I am just distributing nature's gift of fragrance to everyone. I was very touched by her simplicity and thoughtfulness. So many times we think that our simple gestures can't possibly make a difference but they do, the difference may not be obvious but in a small way some how, some way it matters to be thoughtful. We could be ruling the world, running a start-up business or just managing the house with a small infant but taking few minutes out of the day should not be a huge project, why are we so lost in our routine and trying to schedule even the minutest of things like leaving a note to some one we care or just dropping into someone's place to show we care. On this note, here I go to buy a card for my husband :)
