Higher Learning ,I thought was only the materialistic education until I finally got a seat there.THE LIFE I spent there is precious.I joined in B.A .Till then I enjoyed my life with no precious goal or attitude. It was there that I found the meaning of life, value of living a human life and so on. The day starts with a sweet bell which leads us to omkar and suprabhatam. It awakens our souls. This is true. 'OM' AND ITS POWER A German Scientist after doing an experiment with the Mantra OMKAR,came to the conclusion that the vibrations created by the pronunciation of 'OM' is so strong and powerful that it can break a wall, if it is said inside a room. So we really didn't waste our time in chanting Omkar. We have our coffee after that and go to the ground for yogasanas which we never even dreamt of. We have our breakfast with minimum 2 varieties along with tea, coffee and milk. Bell is a reminder asking us to follow some principles. For everything we stand in perfect lines either going to the institute from hostel, before eating etc. etc. We first go to the college auditorium before the classes commence, do some prayer and bhajans for 15 minutes and some inspirational speech by our lecturers or students on alternative days. We have cultural activities on thursdays to bring out the hidden talents like dancing, singing, playing musical instruments, skits etc.The classes commence till noon and then we have delicious lunch and attend the classes again till evening .We are served snacks and coffee in the evening and then we go to the playground to entertain ourselves by playing lots of outdoor and indoor games and sports.we then have 1 hour for ourselves and then we attend bhajan session for 1 hour which fills us with true devotion and spirituality. After bhajan a Thought for the Day (also read out in the college auditorium by a student)is read out for us to try to follow that thought the whole day.we chant Trayambakam mantra for the birth day girls so that the good reaches them. The mantra goes like this. Sorry if there are any spelling mistakes. Om trayambakam yajaa mahe sugandhim pusti vardhanam urvaaruka miva bandhanaath mrityor mukshiya mamrutal we can chant this mantra to someone who is born, dead or for anyone whom we intend to send good wishes. All the students sing birthday song to the birth day girls who will be privileged to give aarati to the Lord that day. we have dinner at 7 pm which ends till 8pm. Everyone should eat food. Everyone should go to the dining hall to have food. Mats are spread down for us to eat for us to bend and eat. We have 3 counters where in our 30 students along with a lecturer will serve food to all 500 students. Before the food is served we pray to the lord Vaishwanara to bless us and we convey our Thanks to the Lord for blessing us with the food everyday. That is called 'BRAHMARPANAM' and it goes like this. 'Brahmarpanam brahma havihi brahmaagno brahmanahutaam Brahmai vatena gantavyam Brahma karma samaadhinaam Aham vaishwaanaro bhootwaa praaninaam dehamaasritaha praanaapaana samaayuktaha pachaamyaham chaturvidham' we pray thus and then alone will we start eating the food. The food is served just out of love by our warden and she makes morsels of food and feeds us with love. Where do we find such people who force us to eat food? Where do we find the principal and lecturers devoted to their work so much? Each and every student takes up the responsibility of serving food, cleaning the hostel etc. etc. I took up dinner serving for 5 years. I still love to serve. We strictly maintain study hours from 8pm to 10pm . A bell again rings to remind us to come out for night prayer. All the 500 students come out of their rooms and chant the night prayer which goes like this 'Kara charana krutam vaakkaayajam karmajam vaa sravana nayanajam vaa maanasam vaaparaadham viditam aviditam vaa sarvam ethat kshamaswaa jaya jaya karunaabdhe sri mahadeva sambho sri sai naatha sambho' After the prayer we are permitted to sleep but if we wish we can study outside our rooms in the corridors which doesn't disturb others' sleep. Our day ends so. Lecturers and students there have good relation and the students can verify their doubts anytime as some of the lecturers stay in the hostel itself. We also have awareness classes as part of our curriculum. Spirituality is taught and not religion in those classes. We share our divine experiences in that class. We have a SPORTS MEET every year on 11th January. We participate in several activities like bike rides, yogasanas, hoola hoops, dances, karate, sword fighting etc. etc. Thousands of people go to Prashanti Nilayam to watch the Sports Meet. We learnt EDUCATION IS FOR LIFE. NOT FOR LIVING. This institute taught me to live my life and not simply drag my life. It taught me how to face the problems in the outside world, it taught me yogasanas, games, sports ,singing, dancing, good at speaking good language, debates, respecting elders and what not. In one sentence, this institution is a mixture of inspiration, education and spirituality. Sharmila Sanka
