My ideas to make India a developed country. This was written after reading a column in Rediff.
-------------------------------------------------------------
1) Education system must be revived.
a) Children need to be taught Moral Lessons, More and More autobiographies of great people (The values cultivated in childhood never die) must be made available to them and should be a 'Must Read' for them.
b) For physical health, every student (whether private or govt. school student) must be given army training not arms training. What I mean is military discipline, exercises, games etc.,
c) There should not be heavy load of subjects and also equal practical sessions, with respect to theory, must be there.
d) Every school must have trainers in various creative spheres (Art, Dance, Music, Handicrafts etc., this is to nurture the sensitive and aesthetic nuances of the children) Morning session must be allocated for studies and afternoon for various cultural, games/exercises and gardening work. Every saturday there must be 'Elocution and Essay Writing' sessions to develop their oratory and literary skills
e) Avoid permissions to schools which show up in every street with limited space and congested classrooms.
2) Health is equally important
a) See to that primary health centres work effectively. Every MBBS student must visit villages 1 month in a year on the whole.
b) Also every registered practician must visit villages 1 month in a year (Minimum 2 days in a month)
c) Encourage Ayurveda and Homeopathy.
d) Create awareness campaigns with the help of school children (this way awareness is both to children and elders).
e) A polluted free environment must be there. So let us call a 'Greenery' campaign and insist that every house must have trees and also every street too. Dwellers of particular street/ward are responsible. Ward Chairman must take care of such activities and provide support.
3) 'Common Civil Code' must be there. (This is a must. First of all population will be decreased and women get equal rights).
4) Reservations must be stopped in govt. organizations too. If they have to continue, they should be on 'income' basis. Every person who received free education and job thereafter, must donate to the institution and adopt a child. In the same way, once the person got a job, his immediate family members and himself should not get any reservations again.
5) Bigger companies like Infosys, Wipro, TATA, Birla, Reliance, Reddy Labs etc., etc., must have a voluntary service wing. (Every company whose turnover reaches 'so and so' amount). This way, 'Social Work' will gain importance and people will come forward to pursue 'Social Work' as their vocation. This should be like the organizations can take up an area like 'Education/Health/small scale industry/tourism' and work on the issue or they should adopt villages. For this, they should be given Complete Tax Redemption. What I suppose is 'If their tax is worth 10 crores', they should spend equal amount of money on these development activities. In addition to checkign the audit of companies, govt. can check the audit of the voluntary wing of the industrial houses. We can see drastic change because I hope these companies will compete with each other in developing the villages they adopt or supporting the cause they advocate.
Many NRIs are interested to serve our country. We must make sure that their help reaches the poor.
6) Decentralisation of power must be there. Gandhiji's 'Village Panchayat' model must be implemented. The power to make decisions related to local problems and to spend the income generated from the village should be given to the local leaders only.
7) 'PPA - Participatory Poverty Assessment' and 'Velugu' schemes are good projects provided implementation is sincere. Such kind of activities must be taken.
8) Our handicrafts and everything related to our Indian tradition need to be publicised and we should encourage local talent (that way those arts will evolve again and income will be generated by natural profession of the families). This will be easily achieved if (Idea No. 5) can be implemented.
Every company gives gifts to its employees on special occasions. We can motivate the companies to give our traditional indian goods/articles/products as gifts. (This can be easily achieved if we campaign well - More so if President himself suggest this to FICCI).
9) Also every international player must campaign for all the causes taken up by the govt., be it Polio, Aids or whatever.
Earlier there used to be News Reels before the cinema starts. Now there is no such thing. So we should make it mandatory that the whole unit of the film must enlighten the users on a cause. This clip should run at the beginning and after the end of the cinema.
'Social Work' - must be mandatory. I heard that in few countries, military service is a must. We make 'Social Work' a must to every citizen of India.
10) The only thing I can't understand is why Mr. Kalam didn't raise his voice against increasing sex and violence in films (obviously the reason is he doesn't watch movies). Films have a major impact on children and youth. So we need to be cautious on what is being aired on private channels.
11) There ought to be 'Educational and Informative' programs at the evening times when children watch television. Especially 7 pm to 10 pm - No dirty programs and filthy serials should be aired.
11-1) During Independence Day, Republic Day all channels must telecast only the programmes showing the parade of state and central govts from Morning 7 am to 1 pm.
(This seems not so important but it can have a drastic impact. Many poems, stories, jokes about the present day serials are the evidence of such an action).
12) Personal life must be given importance too. So every company/organization/institution whatever it may be should work 5 days a week and 8 hours a day. The wings like Police Dept./Hospitals etc., where 24 hours service is needed, there must be shift system. Reg. holidays, only 5 to 7 to be considered. Jan 26th, May 1st, Aug 15th, Sep 5th, Nov 14th. Festivals specific to religion must be optional holidays. In this way we can be more secular and socialist citizens.
13) There must be a qualification for Politicians too. It should be not based on degrees but on the awareness of problems, understanding of the prevailing situation and the policies they adopt, their vision to develop the country. Every party must make its stand clear on crucial issues instead of 'strategic' views and 'cooked' answers.
a) It should be decided before hand like who should be the CM/PM and who are the cabinet ministers and who takes over which portfolio. Debates must be between the corresponding members of respective portfolios.
b) For any NGO, to hand over a project, we will ask for a proposal. Similarly every party must submit their vision document to a 'Panel of Intelligentsia which comprises of bigwigs from all fields'. This should involve what is the budget they are going to allocate and how and in what time they are going to spend etc., It should be a Policy Documentation.
b1)This panel must work out on the possibilities and should grant marks and this should be announced to the public and be given to Election Commission. Then EC can decide whether a party is allowed to contest or not (in particular place). (This way every party must be forced to submit realistic plan). In the same way, the 'Panel of Intelligentsia' can come up with suggestions to political parties.
b2) In this way we can monitor the progress, access where we are.
c)There should not be 'jumpings' from one party to other before or after election.
d) THERE MUST BE A COURSE TO EVERY ELECTED MEMBER ON THE DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POST, ON THE FIELD HE/SHE HOLDS A POSITION. This should not be a 'written' test but a 'Live' one wherein the interview(Questions) would be aired in television. This day also must be on a holiday and every channel should telecast only this program at particular time. Until the member pass the examination, he should not be given allowances and allowed to take part in proceedings. If in a particular time frame, the member did not clears his exam, he has to be ousted. The decisions must then be taken by the Bureaucrats who are appointed as secretaries to particular ministers.
If these basics be taken care of, all other problems will be solved over time.
