We have for the first time in Russia celebrated Ugaadi among all the Telugu people living in Russia. These celebrations were organized by 'VEDIKA' the Telugu Association of Russia, which was formed in August 2004 with the idea of brining all the Telugu people living in Russia to a platform.
Vedika's basic idea is to spread our Telugu culture and language among the children of Telugu community, who are residing for years away from Andhra Pradesh. There are around 500 Telugu people living all over Russia. Most of the people living in Moscow include Business community, the embassy of India staff and students.
For the first time UGADI was celebrated on the 9th of April in a big way. Almost 150 Telugu people with families attended the occasion which was held in the Inter club Hall of the people’s friendship university, Moscow. There was a good cultural program for 2 hours wherein elders and children of the Telugu community participated in classical and folk Dances, children recited Telugu poems and the cultural programs. Total programme was conducted by Mrs Sujatha. The recitation of Panchangam was done by Mr. Giridhar Rao. The program was presided by Mr. Rama Rao garu who is the senior most Telugu Person living in Russia for last 26 years. Telugu officials working in The Embassy of India were also present. The cultural program was followed by tasting the UGADI PACHCHADI and traditional Andhra dinner.
