Articles: My Thoughts | Why celebrities shift their focus? - Mr. Ravi Modalavalasa
| |
“Choreographers of yesterday are Directors of today.
Singers of Today are Music Directors of tomorrow. “
Choreographers turned as Directors, Actors turned as Producers, Producers turned as Lyricists, Writers turned as Directors…X à Y ,Y à Z, Yà X…so on so forth.
All this reminds me of our mathematical class in 8th standard. This series of face-off events would never end in our film world.
Looking at such frequent shift of professions it is obvious to have the question of “ WHY ? “ in everyone’s mind ?
What made them to shift their professions ? Is it money that is luring ? Do they find new motivation/love in their new professions? Are they unhappy with their current professions?
Let us analyze to find if shifting is a fashion or passion for our beloved celebrities..!!
Already, South India popular Choreographers Raghava Lawrence and Prabhu Deva have proved themselves as successful film directors.
MASS, directed by Lawrence was a biggest hit in A,B and C centers for Nagarjuna since Shiva. And NVNV by Prabhu Deva has given hat trick success to successful Sankranti producer MS Raju.
Though both of them have only one film each to count on them they are highly appreciated for their taking style , screen play and direction that matters to be successful director.
Lawrence has given a stylish and class look for a film titled MASS. Audience who were expecting a mass entertainer with MASS were surprised..thrilled and entertained by this classy action flick that left MASS as the biggest money spinner for 2004. In contrast to that, Indian Micheal Jackson Prabhu Deva has chosen a village plot to narrate a cute love story shouldered by brother-and-sister sentiment. Prabhu Deva is applauded for his extraordinary screenplay, visuals, fresh comedy and for extracting niche performances from all his artists. It would be worth waiting to watch this successful CTD (Choreographer Turned Director) duo doing a film together in STYLE. No wonder if STYLE has the fineness of Prabhu’s screenplay and styles of Lawrence.
And then comes Actors turned Producers (ATP). Nag to Narayana Murthy …. Quite a few would fall in this category.
Successful films such as Ninnepelladatha, Satyam, Errasainyam, Osey Ramulamma, Pedda Rayudu…are the few to list. Many have come this way and proved successful and earned bagful.
Then Writers turned Directors (WTD). Paruchuri Bros to Trivikram Srinivas, many writers have tried their hands as Directors and have been very successful in delivering hits to the industry.
Trivikram Srinivas who penned for hits like “Nuvve Kavali”,”Nuvvu Naaku Nacchavu”…..”Manmadhudu” has delivered a hit with his debut venture “Nuvve Nuvve” and is in the making of another film “Athadu” with Tollywood prince and Okkadu fame Mahesh Babu. Industry has high hopes on this film and film big-wigs are already confident of this movie. Infact, as a spectator and movie analyst I too guess it as a definite HIT.
And there are so many successful stories coming from shift of professions.
Well, what would all this good stuff mean for us ? Does it mean that a change in profession would guarantee you success and position you as an all-rounder ?
Does it get you riches and place you in the lime light ?
Let us see the other side of this bright mountain called SUCCESS.
Talking from the latest to the oldest,
What happened to “Sravanamasam” , inspired by Hum Aapke Hai Kaun with huge star cast and directed by a successful writer of yester years Mr. Posani Krishna Murali ?
He was the man behind the hits like “Pavitra Bandam”, “Seetayya..” etc in the past and now ended up with a 2 days show and 2 crores of loss after 2 years of effort.
What happened to Suchitra Chandra Bose ‘s “Pallaki lo Pelli Kuturu” ? She has choreographed for hundreds of south indian movies but she could not deliver an average film even under the supervision of great director Mr.Raghavendra Rao. Then, “Seshu” directed by Jeevitha Rajashekar….a film that was a blockbuster in Tamil & Hindi could not even mark an impression in telugu audience minds.
Then R.P.Patnaik, who tried and delivered a successful film “Srinu Vasanthi Laxmi” as an actor is desperately looking for a musical hit for comeback as Music Director. RP is a classic example for any celebrity to explain how the long gap would impact his/her image. If I continue to quote these examples, then Pawan Kalyan’s “Johnny..”, Mahesh Babu’s “Nani”, MS Narayana’s “Koduku”, AVS’s “Super Heroes”, SV Krishna Reddy’s “UGAADI” ……and many more to join the list. This list too never ends….!!
Now, what would all this not-so-good (or bad) things mean to us ? Does it mean everytime shift is a failure ? Does it mean, Not to think beyond your own profession ?
Answer is definitely NO. I did not mean to discourage when I wanted to bring these things before you.
I recently read a news item about singer Ravi Varma’s new music album “Ninnu Choosthe” as a music director. Then all the above questions popped-up in my mind to find the future position for Ravi Varma in our film industry. Whether he would be Music Director or remain as a Singer ? Or will be a successful in both ? Let us not worry about his future for now. He is just one individual among the above discussed. His new album is yet slated to be released at TANA Conferences on 1st July’05 in Detroit. Hope and wish he will be very successful with his new venture as Singer and Director.
But as my last word to all my friends, I would want suggest to think twice and assess yourselves sincerely before changing your gears.
At the end of the day, it is all about money that you are dealing with and so many people are living on this industry with lots of hopes.
So, don’t rush in doing things and put our motherly film-industry in jeopardy.
But be bold and confident to achieve new heights in your careers with hard work and sincerity in all your works.
I wish all of you very best in all your future projects.
