Articles: Short Stories | ‘Sky-flowers’ and the ‘Golden Deer’ - Mrs. sharmila Sanka
| |
One day a big herd of deer started off to enjoy the beauty of the forest. There were many deer small and big. Some of them were real tiny. Among them was the little deer named Ronny. He was so cute and golden colored with bright spots on his body. His mother loved him a lot. The mother was helping him enjoy the nature, the flowers, trees and other animals little.
The little deer looked at the other deer as little as him. He wanted to walk and play like the rest. So he asked his mom if he could join them. She said ‘no’. The herd kept walking and talking. Little Ronny kept on pestering his mom in order to join them. At last mom agreed for that on one condition- for every 10 minutes he was to meet his mom. Ronny nodded his head and followed his mom’s condition. It was getting dark and the herd wanted to return back to their homes. On their way back, Ronny was going off and on to her mom. Suddenly Ronny looked at the sky. He found something glittering in the sky.
“Wow, how beautiful their glitter is? What are those?”
Thinking so, somehow Ronny happened to miss the herd. It was walking further and further and at last thought they were beautiful glittering flowers of the sky. He was anxious and thrilled to know how they looked like from near. He somehow wanted to grab those flowers that he jumped higher and higher, ran further and further though he very well realized he was away from the herd and his mother. He wanted to grab those flowers and surprise his mom with them. The more he walked, the more the sky-flowers appeared to be far. Moving further he fell into a pit in the forest. It was then he realized the words of his mother not to leave her at any cost. He repented for his wrong deed. He shouted for help. It was only after half hour that he found his loving mom in tears and other deer to help him out.
Ronny immediately hugged his mom and said,
“Sorry mommy, I was behind those glittering sky-flowers and I could not reach them though I went so far. I wanted to surprise you with that attractive gift.”
“Dear loving child, they are not sky flowers as you think them to be; they are the stars glittering in the sky which we can never reach. Never trust blindly and go for things strange and far” said his mom. Ronny’s eyes relaxed as if he treasured that lesson in his heart.
