What a day today. Number of marriages in a marriage season, too many dining plates washed and plenty of food containing boiled food grains, used curries were thrown in the near dust bins road side. Stomach is full. Life appears very joy, if every day is like this. While thinking like this, suddenly introspection started. Really what is this life? Searching for used or washed plates during marriages and searching for food at the backyards of the houses, stealing the food from children’s hands…pathetic condition. Is this a life? I search for food that is thrown away by others. Something is not good. Why this god created this crow life like this. Why didn’t he have me a human life….I am discussing myself. Suddenly, as that is Shiva Ratri, lord Shiva appeared in burrow.
“Are you discussing yourself some thing great thing?” Shiva asked pretending ignorance.
I got angry as Shiva while knowing everything asking this question. But as god appeared before me, I started politely with slow voice. “Swami, I am did any sin”.
“Till now, you didn’t commit any sins”, Shiva replied.
I got so angry. “Then why did you give this crow life to me. Why didn’t gave me a human life”, I asked Shiva.
There was a question mark on Shiva’s face. “As you committed no sins till date, I am giving 24 hours time to you. Think twice before coming to conclusion for human life. Even after this 24 hours, if you want human life, I will definitely consider”, Shiva told and disappeared.
Amazing! There are no limits to me for joy. Very soon I am going to get human life. All the fellow crows cry out of jealousy, “couw couw….” just 24 ahead, I am going to get a human life.
But, as I am going to life human life, before starting that life, I need to know something about human life and how they are living. I starting flying probe the human life. I landed on a domestic wall of a house. It seems there was delivery in that house. All the relatives and women folk are kissing that child. ‘Kaki pilla kakkiki muddai nattu, manishi pilla kooda manishiki mudde kada’, I answered my self. But the mother of that child is tense and looking at her child with worry. An auto came. May be the son-in-law of that house. All stood in respect of his arrival. But he came with anger face asking, “Again daughter?” he threw his own daughter catching her leg revolving in the air out of the house. Before the eyes open, that baby closed her eyes, permanently.
“Alas, what happened to these humans? They are killing their own children. Among the crows, this will not be like this. We love all the crows whether it is male or female”. I can’t sit there for more than a fraction of a second, after that.
I went to another window. Somebody is crying, “I do not know. I did nothing. I am innocent”. Some kicking sounds are coming in between, “Dhan…dhaab…” I do not understand what exactly happening inside. I tried to look from that window. Four men humans wearing kaki dress beating another human with batons of guns and shoes. Suddenly, that human fell down, blood coming out of his nose and mouth. “Son of bitch …dead”, shouted one kaki dressed men with joy in his face. “Remove his loin cloth and tie to his neck, hang him to the fan”, another kaki man advised. All four kaki dressed men hanged him likewise.
My heart beat started rising. “Alas, what a pathetic condition. Human beings are king human beings?!?!?!?! But in our crow life, even for a small would of a crow, all the remaining crows roam around and help.”
“Am I did mistake to ask Shiva for human life?” I started introspecting. But let me prove few more things about human life. While thinking, I entered a kitchen of a house.
“Donga lanja….how long you take to cook food”, a man is shouting and kicking a women on her stomach who was ground. “I am with full month pregnant, unable to walk”, she is pleading.
Yes, it was a mistake. I did a ridiculous act asking Shiva to ask for human life. Human life is vulnerable. I am unable to sit there and went to a no man’s land and landed on a tree.
Then there came a poorly dressed mentally unbalanced begging woman, who is at her 20s, eating the begged food items. Four inebriated men came and fill her mouth with pieces of cloth, started raping her. Poor women, she even do not know what is happening. This raping rampage continued till sun rise. I am crying and shouting, ‘couw couw……. Couw... couw… couw... couw…………. Couw... couw……………….couw... couw’ to call somebody to save that woman. But, the stones fell on me. One stone hit me, I am injured. After sunrise, that four kaki dressed men came there. I was stunned. They are here also?!?!?!?!
“This is the human life I asked Shiva?” I left that place with tears in my eyes. I decided to inform Shiva, “For me the Crow life is enough. I don’t need human life”.
Then came Shiva, “What you have decided”. I informed my decision to him.
“Now, it is not in your hands. You will become human being”, he said.
I am so nervous and became tensed. “Why? You said I have committed no sin till date. But why this punishment to me”, I asked.
“Till yesterday, you committed no mistake. But you thought to become human at least for some time. That is greatest of all sins”, Shiva replied.
I requested, pleaded Shiva but in vain.
“No…No. Please”, I pleated.
“Go to Hell”, Shiva left the place with anger.
My golden 'crow' life was missed our of my own hands.
