Every anniversary of India’s Independence
A land mark in the political history of India
The day of celebrations with great pomp – gaiety and grandeur
With colourful lights
Sky catching crackers
Emotional speeches
Echoing sounds
But – alas!
Where is our Brarath Matha?!
Here – she is
In a dark and dismal gloomy corner of the corridors
Shedding tears of blood from the reddened eyes
Closing with firm grip her both ears
Trembling & stumbling any time to fall
Staring her eyes up and above as if waiting to leave
Her life of an endless agony
Amidst tortures & turmoils and sorrows & sufferances
Crimes and corruption and scams and schemes
Without a single soul to standby and console!
Look back to the days of their self-less lives
Facing humiliation and servitude
Hear to their voices in chorus – clamouring for freedom
Embracing swadeshi and condemning videshi
Clad in khadi clothing from top to toe
Young and old – men and women
All marking towards the glittering path of freedom
Recall your memories of their glowing faces and shining eyes
Their voices echoing with the songs of patriotism
By gone are those days with them for ever & with them forever
And
Contrastingly today
Whichever newspaper you see
Whichever columns you read
You are bound to find
Bride burnings and child rapes
Day light dacoities and merciless murders
Spine-chilling vengeance
Train derailments and air crash sabotages
Kidnappings and killings
Multi-crore scams and multifarious hawalas
Strikes and lockouts – protests and demonstrations
Dharnas and waving of black flags
Exploitation of child labour
Exploitation of women – weaker section and minorities
dal badals and toppling games
Drugs and mafia & extortions and HIV / AIDS
Increasing religious intolerance
Decreasing political will to root out corruption
Human bombs and nuclear bombs
Problems of global warming and industrial and political pollution
Demolition of forests and threat to wild life
Increasing foreign debts and world bank loans
Affecting one and all physically and mentally
well organized cyber crimes
A total scenario of mental degradation and moral degeneracy
Leaving the path of truth and ahimsa leading to salvation
Are we not heading towards head on collision
amidst
All divisible forces and dominating social evils!
Un-tolerable it is!
Never our forefathers and freedom fighters dreamt of this day!
A vast Nation – our is
Noted for ahimsa and secularism – unity and diversity
Spiritual knowledge and great epics
Beauty of nature and nature of beauty
You are seeing Nature – but – you can’t enjoy it’s Beauty
Your mind is totally pre-occupied by
Stresses and strains and ever mounting tensions
It is time to think a little while
To change our attitudes
To prepare ourselves to fight these social evils
To put in united efforts in this behalf
Forgetting all our
Differences and discriminations
Standing steadfastly for the unity and integrity of the country
Both in word and in deed
Re-dedicating ourselves to this cause of the nation
Involving ourselves with all our might
Invoking full our body – mind and spirit
If these are our deficiencies
With due apologies to one and all in rank and file
Can we celebrate our Independence?!
No – not at all
We are still in “dependence” – still in – “dependence” – still in “dependence”
