Gambling, Lies, Prostitution & Drugs/Alcohol ***** This piece was posted in the following thread in the discussion board. http://discussion.telugupeople.com/discussion/index.asp?board=-3&page=2&topicCode=8&tc1=3162&tc2=0 Posted by: Son of God At: 12, Feb 2006 6:15:34 PM IST ***** Gambling, Lies, Prostitution & Drugs/Alcohol. Disclaimer: This is not for the timid. Don't go any further than this if you take offence to the words in the title of the essay. Thank you. Why do one of the evils always try to associate themselves with the other? What is the force that drives a Gambler on an intoxicant consumption spree, and land him in the arms of a prostitute? I don't have any experience in obsessive gambling behaviour. I do know people with serious alcohol problems. They usually resort to other means of evil once their alcohol tolerance increases. I don't know why. I remember the Draupadi Vastrahaparana scene in the nationally televised Mahabharatha when I was a kid. There was gambling involved, and they turned Draupadi into a tool for public enjoyment, if you know what I mean. Was there alcohol involved in that? I don't know. I know for sure that if it wasn't for that fateful gambling, none of the thousands of deaths because of the war would have happened. ( That innocent people were killed to achieve the purpose of killing one person by name Duryodhana is another story for another time ) You start with gambling, and if you are on a losing spree, you would go and drink, naturally, and you lose control. If you win while gambling, you would want to celebrate it, naturally, and you go and you drink, and you lose control, also naturally. Maybe some gamblers are smart, and they are in it for the money, but we don't make rules for the exceptions, we make rules for the general casualities(See Note at the bottom). Which leads me to the next question, why do people gamble? I thunk and I thunk and I thunk, and I actually came up with reasons why people gamble, they are, 1) Greed, 2) More greed, 3) Even more greed, 4) Greediest minds in the whole world, and finally, 5) Fun. People gamble because they want to make easy money. They want to live the riches that they don't earn for. They work hard in their jobs, and watch TV about the lifestyles of the rich and famous, and they want to be like the men and women in the television show. Live life king size. So, you need money to accomplish that. How do you get that? Simple! You gamble your way to success. You have a house payment due, and you don't have the money. So, what do you do? Once again, gamble your way to make ends meet. Ladies and Gentlemen, I pause here to make something clear. Not everyone would want to lead a life like that, but I have heard about relatives who did that. Go bankrupt in a 3 card game in a Dhaba outside Bejawada. My relative committed suicide deserting his wife and 2 girls because he could not generate enough money to pay off the debts because of a card game. He was drunk the night he played the game. Maybe there is a pattern here. They say alcohol brings out the child in you. It brings out the truth inside you. Atleast that is what is given as an excuse to pretend that your inhibitions have been blown away because of drinking a round of Red Label. So, if alcohol makes a man gamble, then that in certainty is how he ( or even a she ) wanted to make big bucks in the first place. So, your plan to make money in the world is gambling. Nice!
