Wisdom is the top most layer of human potential.
There is a huge difference between Knowledge and wisdom. Knowledge is an amalgamation of data and information coupled with varying levels of intelligence. While Knowledge can be measured with IQ (Intelligent Quotient) tests and the like, on the other hand, wisdom can not be measured. Wisdom can only be felt, experienced or appreciated.
Highly intelligent persons don't necessarily possess wisdom. As far as my personal experience goes, I've seen very few intelligent persons possessing wisdom. At the same time, people with wisdom do not necessarily have to possess high IQ levels.
By reading books, newspapers and magazines, watching TV, accessing Internet and listening to radio, one can acquire any amount of knowledge, even to the level of Terabytes and thus one can be labeled as very intelligent. But wisdom cannot be acquired in the similar way.
It's sad but the reality is education system around the world is not offering wisdom (most importantly during the formative years of the human-beings) and thus we see millions of highly educated people with lots of knowledge but less or no wisdom.
It is ludicrous and immaturity when somebody proudly says s/he has done Masters or PhD from IIT, IIM or the USA etc. Their knowledge or their qualifications or their wealth hardly does any benefit to this society. The only way they can do benefit to the society is through their wisdom.
People around the world are getting more and more disenchanted by the present Knowledge-based economy and society due to the ever-growing and perennial list of the problems that it is
causing. Knowledge-society was supposed to solve the hitherto existing problems but quite contrarily, it has worsen the situation. The reasons can be directly attributed to the severe lack of wisdom. Industrialization made knowledge (and education) more important for pesonal financial success but in this process wisdom has been deliberately neglected.
