Senior Citizen Services Outsourcing Back in 1997 when I was working in Ohio, USA, I happened to live in a huge apartment that was largely occupied by retired senior citizens. A 78-year old man named Bud, who was a Second World War veteran, was working as a security officer of that apartment. A twice-divorced man with no children and no relatives, he was living all alone. In my quest to know how old time America looked and what experiences he had during WWII, I would talk to him almost daily. Weekends, I used to take him to shopping along with me. At times, we would eat out at his favourite Diners restaurant or a local grill along with his friends. As days passed by, we became close friends. It would be appropriate to say that our relationship was that of a grandfather and grandson. At one point, he offered to adopt me but as I had no intention of settling down in the USA, I had to say ‘sorry’. When I look back, I feel bad for having turned down his request to take him to Ireland, which is his ancestral place. At that age, he couldn’t go alone and was ready to bear all the expenses if I was willing to take him there. Unfortunately, I was then totally preoccupied with my project. Thanks to Grandpa Bud, I had the opportunity of closely observing the lives of senior citizens in the USA. In fact, I was practically living amidst a sea of senior citizens. All the apartments in one mile radius were actually built to house corporate offices. In fact, two decades prior to 1997, that whole area was bustling so much with business activities as if there was no end to that growth. Then came the wave of Chinese and the Asian Tiger nations into the American market, which caused majority of those American companies either to go bankrupt or move to China or elsewhere in Southern hemisphere to cut costs and stay afloat. Thousands of white-collar and blue-collar workers were given pink slips and shown exit doors.
