Alternative Healthcare Services Outsourcing:
While in the USA, I worked for one of America’s biggest HMO (Health Maintenance Organization). There, I happened to observe the trends of healthcare industry. That’s how I started my research on this subject.
Food habits, work habits and lifestyle habits have shown tremendous negative effect on health conditions of people around the world. Due to the ever increasing health problems, healthcare and medicines are becoming increasingly costlier. One study predicts that in next one decade or so healthcare expenses eat away more than half of an average earner’s income. And at the same time, more and more people, especially in Western nations are losing interest in chemical-based English medicine and are opting for alternative and preventive medicines. People around the world are increasingly realizing the benefits and advantages of alternative healthcare system.
Health insurance companies in the USA and Europe had been reluctant to cover the expenses of alternative medicine of those patients who found better or permanent cure in alternative medicine. Hence, the patients had to pay expenses for alternative medicines through their nose despite possessing health insurance.
The combined investigation of health insurance agencies in the USA revealed that alternative medicines could cure many ailments more effectively and for lot less cost than the allopathic medicine. After having realized the cost-benefits, more and more insurance companies have started covering the expenses of certain alternative medicines.
Alternative and preventive medicine is not a small market. Experts estimate it to have the market potential of billions of dollars per annum.
I named this concept as “Alternative Healthcare Services Outsourcing” (AHSO).
There is tremendous scope for India to capture a major piece of the AHSO action. If Indian leadership can plan and implement rightly, we can become a global hub of alternative medicine because India is already the birthplace of Ayurveda, which is one of the finest alternative healthcare systems in the world.
