Sri Raghavendra Swamy is said to be the divine incarnation of the great ‘Bhakta PRAHLADA’ who belonged to the ‘KRITA YUGA’, instrumental in spreading ‘Narayana Bhakti’ to the Universe & bringing harmony to the human lives.
The Saint ‘Sri Raghavendra [ 1595-1671*] belonged to the 16th century, born in Tamil Nadu, India, the homeland of divine miracles and rich spiritual heritage, called ‘Sanatana Dharma’.
He took to ‘Saint Hood’ at the age of 21 and lived a humble life besides being the greatest scholar in Vedic Studies & endowed with un-paralleled healing powers in the history. He also had the power of clairvoyance, a rare gift which only divine blessed ones can possess.
Millions all over the world of all faiths were recipients of the saint’s healing help and spiritual enlightenment. Noted among some celebrated recipients were, Mrs. Volga C. Mega of VeneZuela (wife of the then FORD Motor Company Owner, South American Automobile Company) and Sir Thomas Munroe, Governor of Erstwhile East India Company (in British India) in the 20th Century.
In 1671 at the age of 76 ‘Sri Raghavendra Swamy’ entered live into the ‘Brindavana’ (Tomb exclusively designed by swamy himself) at ‘Mantralayam’ a small village in Adoni Taluq of the state of Andra Pradesh in South INDIA and is live in it even today out of sight to the mundane world. He would be in deep meditation for several centuries to protect the mankind on this planet. His radiance can be felt by very many.
His deity is Lord ‘Sri Rama’ who is the 7th of the TEN manifestations (Avtaar) of the Supreme energy (Lord VISHNU), who appeared in this terrestrial world to destroy evil and re-establish rightousness. Thousands of pilgrims visit the holy place, Mantralayam in Andhra Pradesh, India, each day throughout the year to have the saint’s grace for alleviation of their day to day ailments in their lives.
In Auckland, this is the second year in succession that such a function was held by a small group of devotees with much dedication, devotion and well organized manner. The function started at 8:30 AM with a formal prayer of the guru’s ‘Ashtotharam’,group singing of Bhajans followed by an Audio visual presentation by one of the devotees on the subject of ‘LIFE AND WORKS OF SRI GURU RAGHAVENDRA SWAMY’ bringing to the knowledge of the devotees many subtle truths of the saint’s life and achievements, a few of the innumerable number of well documented miracles, his yeoman social contribution of inculcating devotion and bringing peace & tranquility to the society at large.
In view of such an excellent response from the wide public participation, the devotees feel that this annual event should be regularly conducted for the benefit of persons of all faiths in New Zealand.
Incidentally this year, the day of 05 September 2004, happened to be the 70th Birthday of Sri. Vamana Murthy, one of the senior devotees of the guru and in this connection he was greeted by his friends and relatives present there wishing him long and happy life. At the end, after the concluding ceremonious prayers, sumptuous and delicious Lunch was served for all devotees and the function ended at 2:30 P.M.
It is firmly believed that those who pray to ‘Sri Raghavendra Swamy’ sincerely from the depths of their hearts, the Guru who is also known as ‘Guru Sarwabhouma’ (Monarch of all Gurus) would certainly bestow upon them unlimited happiness in this life and later too, with supreme joy, comforts, wisdom, devotion, vairagya (worldly detachment), longevity, good health and prosperity in greater measure leading to intensified service to Guru and the Almighty, besides proficiency to do social contributions in a positive manner & enjoyment of accolades and celebrity.
