RELIGION - REALIZATION OF GOD

Swami Vivekananda says Religion is nothing but realization of God. He further said, that just as God is one, religion is also one. We can not become religious by mere outward behaviour and appearance. So the message is “Realize religion, no amount of talking will do any good”. Religion is essentially the manifestation of divinity already in man. It is not some thing that needs to be stuffed in to a man. In fact, religion is infinite. It existed even before the creation of this universe and it will ever exist. Unfortunately, it is finding expression in various faiths often resulting in conflicts and strife. As being blamed by some people, Religion is not any cause for ills of the society, but it is a great unifying force. Some people have this notion that there will be peace if the whole world were to convert to one religion or no religion at all. There can’t be anything more ridiculous than this. Forget about the world, nation or society, but two brothers belonging to the same family fight with each other and at times even kill their own sibling. It doesn’t mean that you disown the family itself. It would not have been difficult for god to create only one religion, if he desired so? He did not do so. Why? God may be one or even may be without any attributes, but not to his worshippers.People will wrangle for religion, fight for it, die for it; anything, but live. It is not what the religion told to do. Instead of developing ones own self in to realization of god, we have developed our loyalties and rivalries in a more communalised manner. The important religious discrimination is not between those who worship and those who do not, but between those who love and those who don’t. Sadly, people often pick-up their religion to hate but not to love. The real battle field for a Crusade / Jehad / Dharmayudh is our mind and it is between our low tendencies and higher reality. It is between imperfection and our quest for perfection. If we are concerned only with the Self, we would go a long way in overcoming religious intolerance. There is no monopoly over God or the Divine Wisdom. Any thirsting aspirant can abide by God.
