Thanks to the growing knowledge-economy, most of the jobs don’t require us to move from our cubicles. Majority of the knowledge-workforce is today putting in more than 10-hours per day at work and an additional one to two hours for travel. Not to mention, the fast paced life is leaving less time and patience for people to cook the traditional food at home. Thus people are opting for fast food and processed food with lots of sugar, salt and chemicals.
The cumulative effect is more and more people are becoming obese. The problem has gotten so worse that some studies revealed that more than 50 per cent of the citizens in the highly industrialized nation such as the USA and UK are overweight or obese. Worst of all, obesity among children is skyrocketing in Western nations.
Even in India, obesity is on rise, especially in urban areas. The situation got worse after the advent of knowledge-industries. India has the highest number of sugar/diabetic patients in the whole world. Look at the urban kids and a lot of them are overweight.
Health-care professionals are advising people to take up physical exercises so as to prevent sugar, diabetes, BP and high cholesterol etc. Doctors are asking parents to keep their children engaged in sport activities.
