Cultural base of Religion and Manipulative Politics

This refers to the ‘Soniaji, Hinduism is not just Ramayana’ by Vikas Singh on 6th June 2003. Anybody in the world who targets religion either for reforms or achieving something, gains something or looses everything. This is very interesting. In fact, the article has not mentioned all the issues of Hinduism. Sri Ravishankar’s opinion, ‘Religion is like the banana peel, Spirituality, the banana. We hold on to the peel and throw away the banana. But if we rise above religion, and attain spirituality, our actions cannot be anything but compassion’, is true. But when religious fundamentalism is at a high rate, unemployment will be in rise, crime against women for dowry will be in increasing mode, and the religion has no solution for it. Once in one article, I wrote the corruption is at culture core and this sentence faced lot of criticisms. If it is not at culture core, why there is deeply rooted corruption? The corruption is from top to bottom with some honourable exceptions. The practice of Dowry is nothing but corruption. Even though there are laws to prevent it, they are in vain. Hence, many people could not understand the spirituality. In fact, elite group and religious people are not concerned about these issues. In fact, unemployed youth are getting employment in fundamentalist organisations. Sri Ravishankar’s question, ‘How many people are even aware of all the scriptures and schools of thought that exist within Hinduism?’ is sound at the present context of communal situation in India. If any party targets religious sentiments of the people, there will be polarisation of voters. Because voters are always carried away by petty benefits. Ultimately people will be divided on sectarian lines and on those divisions politicians get the power. Among the four Vedas (Except 9th Mandala), Brahmana, Aranyaka, and Upanishads, it is the Upanishads that are for the purity of the soul. Hence the banana peel is in Upanishads, it is the spirituality of Hinduism. Hence it is the ‘language of the soul’ that is language of the god, not hymns, stanzas and religious structures. Hinduism is great as it is ready to absorb any one. At the same time, it divides the people in the name of Varnas and castes; one can say it, if he is not offending the religion. Every politician and religious schools talks about Ramayana, Mahabharata and Puranas, but few people preach Upanishads. The originality of the Upanishads has thus been ignored. Hence the concept of ‘Vasudhaiva kutumbum’ is often overlooked in this present politico-socio-economic scenario. The Congress (I) needs to fight against communalism, if it is true patriot of Indian nation, society and culture. If it wants to use the religion, it may high light the ‘Upanishads’ and ‘Vasudhaika kutumbum’, not politics of Ramayana, Mahabharata and Ayodhya. It is not only Ms. Sonia, all the people who want this nation free from communal tensions, needs to notice this. Ms. Sonia should not be dynamic over the religious issues, on socio-economic maladies. I am not a favourite of Congress (I). The corruption and dowry related issues are continue to exist and prosper, but no political party fights on these issues. But I believe, it is the Congress (I) that can fight for this cause, because of its deeply rooted mass base.
