Articles: My Thoughts | A SMILE: It Costs Nothing - Recipe Administrator

“A smile should be the first item to be put on a woman’s face even before her lipstick and rouge”
A SMILE - or rather the lack of it - can even makes a person lose his job.
A smile infact costs nothing but can reap dividends, far surpassing the simple act.
Yet the value of smile is underestimated by many people, who go about with such glum, taciturn looks that one would think that all the troubles of the world have been dumped on their poor shoulders.
They may be excused, you may feel, as nowadays, what with air crashes, transport strikes and spiraling prices, there are fewer and fewer things left to smile about. But then again, in such gloomy circumstances, does it not become even more imperative to spread goodwill and cheer with a lovely, warm smile, right from the bottom of our heart?
A smile can say more eloquently than a thousand words, “I like you.” What better way to make friends and win over your enemies? A smile should be the first item to be put on a woman’s face even before her lipstick and rouge.
Open the door to your visitors with a warm smile and you’ll make them feel wanted and welcome. Greet your husband when he comes home from the office dog tired, with a loving smile - instead of a whole list of complaints – and see his fatigue draining out of him in front of your very eyes.
Smile at your children, at your neighbors and even the lady who is sharing your sear in the train – and watch the transformation you’ll effect in your day and theirs.
A smile given will be received and passed on, till many different individuals are touched by its warmth.
An individual’s personality can be completely transformed with a lovely smile.
Ask any woman, and she’ll confess that she prefers to shop with a dealer who is friendly and smiling to doing it with a cold, stern-faced man. A chatty smiling vegetable vendor will attract more customers to his cart even if his prices are a wee bit higher, for pleasant friendliness can draw people like a port of honey will draw bees.
A smile which does not come from the heart or touch the eyes is a meaningless act, a dead thing, utterly devoid of life, a mere stretching of the buccal muscles.
A real smile adds beauty to the face, but a false smile makes one look more sinister and grotesque. Who indeed does not encounter the latter category? Sinister smiles, cold, calculating smiles and bitter twisted smiles.
Even if you are one of those unfortunates, who have not learnt the art of smiling its’ never too late to make amends.
For a start, smile even if you do not feel like smiling. Hum, whistle or sing. Act happy and you’ll soon find that you are happy.
Action and feeling go together and when we regulate the action, we automatically gain control over our feeling. If we act cheerful, cheerfulness will soon become our natural companion.
As the children’s rhyme says-“It’s never any trouble just to s-m-i-l-e”, let’s not waste time in using a smile to make our lives richer and happier. Start right now. SMILE!
