Education teaching us morals?

Fantastic topic for discussion…lets discussing… I don't know how to start but here are some points that we should seriously think about 1) Who made children to spend more time at schools (you say tuitions, or yoga or routine classes)? 2) If you, being a parent, can't spend enough time with you kids then who will teach the personality qualities? 3) What is definition for 'Top schools'? is it based ranks they got - You have your own choice of making the definition for 'Top Schools' then why can't you analyze all the schools and make a decision. Believe me or not, these days we depend too much on media. 4) Where are old style relationships - they may be between parents/Children and Teachers/Students? And who is responsible for this? .... This list goes on... The solution: More attachment between parents/children Social participation Reducing the media effect on young minds ..Etc... Our education system according to me only teaches sciences, math, history, geography etc. it does not contribute in any manner to general personality development of a person. Nor does it even see the ability or the interests of the person. We are put through a defined set of textbooks for a defined number of subjects in a class of 60 students and each student learns or is expected to learn what the rest are learning. Full stop. Nothing more nothing less. The traits you have mentioned about personality traits that are formed or developed as per their family environment and nature. Sometimes the growth or lack of growth in wisdom in the individual contributes to this. Education in India has absolutely no say or role in this aspect of a person. Its true 50 yrs ago we thought education will make us change for better and it did in other ways! We thought by having some moral stories in our subjects we could teach the unlimited human aspects for the children. This was the first mistake. Secondly, we think the teacher is ultimate and the student has to listen to teacher in the class, i think teacher must be respected mind you i am all for it but the extents to which we take it is not letting the child grow personality wise. So we made classes that have very little interaction. Thirdly, we wanted the children to learn from books so much that sports and other social activities took a back seat or did/does not exist for the children. So, another channel of personality development is blocked. So, basically it all boils down to family values and his/her own nature. Hence we have a frightening society out there that does not know the value of respect, niceness, help, honesty, togetherness, correct speech etc. When working, our personality is changed and formed by the opportunities we expect to gain. And not by our own honesty to the situation. It is as simple as that. I don't support it, i don't do it but sadly that is my experience too. It feels bad that in IT one gets huge salaries but the personality has remained small. -Malathi
