Articles: My Thoughts | Shivamma - sri enjoy_ happiness
| |
Some people on earth are born only , perhaps, to face difficulties from childhood till the time they reach the grave they have to struggle to survive in order to get at least one square meal a day. Shivamma born to a farmer worker is no exception to this. Her father employed her as child labour only when she was five years old. She struggled since then serving in various households to earn money for giving it to mother. Mother used to treat her affectionately but the large family of eight members to feed worried her. The grand mother and the uncles used to grab whatever little Shivamma was trying to save with in the little amount she earned. Shivamma dreamt that her difficulties may vanish with her marriage. The parents could only tie her to a labour working in Fatehnagar Industrial area. The in-laws family being large she was forced to work even after her marriage.
God perhaps blesses the less fortunate with more children and she gave birth to 3 daughters and one son. It was becoming difficult to live. The husband ran away from home. Shivamma started getting milk and curd pockets and selling to make a living.
Shivamma got her daughters and son married after they reached adulthood. The son left the house after giving birth to three daughters. Shivamma accepted all as it came thinking it as her Kharma. She is now about 80 years old but struggling to educate her grand daughters, by selling milk pockets and curd pockets.
Educating her grand daughters is becoming much more difficult. But, she decided that grand daughters should study well. So she continues to struggle to earn as ever. I happened to know about her through her grand daughters studying in 9 th class in our IRS.
There are many such numerous stories in this world. The average income of an Indian is Rs. 12 per day, as read somewhere. People who are blessed with more fortune should help the lesson fortune. I consider myself blessed in associating to extend a helping hand to those down-trodden and economically weaker sections.
There is an everlasting need for more NGO’s to come forward to extend their might to help people living below the poverty line.
