Today’s letter is J and it translates in to a joyful day for all of us, if we let it be! Just for today, we will try to focus on joy, and not on to Judge anybody. Following article is taken from “Times of India, New Delhi” newspaper. J for Judging: “How can I stop judging people?” There is no need to stop judging people, you have to understand why you judge and how you judge. You can only judge behavior because only behavior is available. You cannot judge the person because the person is hiding behind, the person is a mystery. You can judge the act but the act is irrelevant. Sometimes a man is smiling. The act is on the surface and deep inside he may be sad. The first thing to understand that you can only look at behavior, and behavior does not mean much. The being is such a big phenomenon. And the act is so tiny and small. It does not define anything. It may be just a momentary thing. You said something to somebody and he became angry, but don’t judge him by his anger, it may be just momentary flash. He may be very loving person. If you judge him by his anger you misjudge him. You don’t know anybody’s life in its totality. Then your behavior will depend on your judgment. You will avoid the person. Never judge anybody by his or her action. By and by become more and more aware of the privacy of being. Every being inside his own soul is so private there is no way to penetrate it. Whenever you judge, it does not apply to the person at all. One thing to be constantly remembered is not to judge what is dark and what is light, what is wrong and what is right, what is good and what is evil – because the moment you judge, you start repressing. You don’t want to show anything that you judge as dark, as evil, as bad. Then you have chosen only half of yourself, it is as if you have chosen only the day and you have denied the night. The night has its own beauties. It has depth, silence, serenity and it has the stars. Just think of a rose bush. If rose bush starts worrying about the thorns, the whole energy of the rose bush will be involved in suppressing the thorns. It may not be able to bring roses. We have accepted that thorns are part of the rose bush. Thorns and rose bushes are coming from the same roots, same bush, they live on the same juice. They live in deep harmony, there is no conflict and there is no judgment. We go on judging our thoughts, our actions, and what is good and what is bad. We are constantly creating conflict and duality. We have to create oneness, a beautiful harmony between day and night, between life and death. We have to create wholeness. The wholeness either good or bad, it is transcendental. Life should be lived with as much wholeness as possible. Live a life without judging. And don’t worry about what is right and what is wrong. Life is to enjoy. The spiritual journey is one of continuous learning and purification. When we know this, we become joyful.
