Renunciation of the dearest thing is an attribute that brings immense pleasure. Sacrifice is acclaimed as the super-most quality. Upanishads proclaim ‘Tyagaineke Amrutatwa maanasuhu’ One should his or her attachment to mundane,worldly things and crave for the penultimate, the eternal BLISS. Hindu philosophy abounds with several anecdotes which depict the sublimacy of sacrifice. Budha, the son of a ruler realized the need for leading a secluded life-relinquished His kingdom, and the myriad luxuries that are associated with it. Not only that! He left His own wife, a small baby, to their fate and wanted to show an example to the people at large that SACRIFICE is an exemplary character.
