There lived a great sage Narad in heaven. He used to travel and sometimes used to come to earth to see how things were going on there. One day, while passing through a forest he saw a yoga student who had been meditating for so long that the ants had built an anthill around his body in such a way that he was hardly visible. When the yogi saw Narad, he said, Sir, where are you going Narad replied, I am going to heaven to Lord Shivas place. Yogi asked, Will you please do something for me there Sure what can I do for you Could you find out from the Lord about the number of births that I have to meditate I have been sitting here and meditating for such a long time. Sure. Going on the same path, Narad encountered yet another man, but this one was altogether different from the first one in the sense that he used to dance and sing joyfully chanting the names of Rama and Krishna. On seeing Narad he said, How pleasant it is for me to see you Can you tell me which way are you heading To heaven. Oh, I am pleased, could you do me a favor by inquiring when would I get the liberation Sure, I will. It was after many years that Narad could go back on the same route. When he saw the first man, he impatiently asked Narad, You have taken so long since you were here last time. Tell me, what did the Lord tell about me. Narad said, Yes I have inquired but the Lord said you have to take yet another five births. Oh my God, exclaimed the yogi, Yet another five births The Lord should have known that I have waited so long. Narad did not wait any more to hear his blabbering. On walking further, Narad met the other singingdancing Yogi. When he saw Narad, he said. Hello, after a long time What happened Do you have some news from the heaven Yes. Well, then tell me. Do you see that tree there Of course. Can you count the leaves on it No problem, I have enough patience. Do you want me to count them right now No, you can take your own time to count it. But I fail to understand what it has that to do with my problem. Well, the message from Lord Shiva conveys to you that you will have to take as many births as the number of leaves of that tree. Oh is that all No Problem, at least now the number is limited to a certain figure. I have to thank God, that he did not say the leaves of entire forest. No sooner he had completed the sentence, then a beautiful palanquin flew down from heaven and the driver said, Please come along with me, I am the representative of Lord Shiva. Where are you going to take me, to the Heaven Yes. I am confused, just now Narad said that I have to take so many more births first and then only I can go up there Yes, that is true, but as you were ready and willing to do that, so there was no question for you to make you wait such a long period. And will you take the other yogi also You know, he has been meditating since long. No, thats not possible. He is not ready even to wait for five more births let him wait and work more. Message Patience and perseverance endures you through miseries.
