When you visit a temple and observe the diety inside think of the divine which is all pervading but not the physical form of that idol. Please don't return from temple without seeking or experiencing God! You shouldnot return empty minded from temples but with love of God etc..
You should meditate the meaning of the Idol and try to attain some qualities of that idol. If you see Sri Vishnu, you please meditate the purpose of the idol. If you happen to go to Vinayaka temple , meditate on the purpose of that diety than on the idol.
Without any meaning there is no idol placed by saints or by kings in those days. Kings bulit the temples and saints transmitted Pranahuthi(A Divine energy)drawn from the ultimate base to these idols.
People in those days went to temples to see god there and experience the presence of Divine in those idols in these temples.
Now a days dirty things are going on in temples also which can not be described in words. Even then there are so many templesin our country where we can experience God. Material force is working in temples.Bad thoughts and atmosphere are created in some places.
More over visiting temples or doing japa or puja give only pleasure or joy or happiness to our senses but reality can not be felt by our senses. It can be only experienced by practising meditation. If we have got any ista devatha we can worship Him/Her only by meditating the meaning of the same.we should think that our Ista devatha is only in jyothi form and residing in our heart.
You should always think of the infinite nature of God.Any physical form has its own limitation. Sri Rama Or Sri Krishna or any God have forms means they have limitations. If we meditate on forms we cannot reach the limitless infinite Divine state.
If we want to cross the ocean of samsara(Bhava Sagara/loukika prapancham)we have to take up the practise of meditation to reach the reality(Almighty)which is limitless. Then only we will be freed from rebirth and freed from ocean of samsara and thus problems of our life will be solved.
