Articles: My Thoughts | Expectations are everywhere!!! - Mr. Sanjeev Sharma Sharma

Expectations are everywhere. The day a child is born, he is tied with the chains of expectations. Remember the song of a Hindi movie, “ Tujhe Suraj kahoon yah Chanda; Tujhe Deep Kahoon yah tara; Mera Naam Karega Roshan Jag mein mera raj dulara.” (By whatever name I call you, My Son, whether I call you son, moon, flame or star, but you are the one who will brighten my name in the days to come.)
By giving life and providing the values and culture, parents want their child to obey them without any objections. By giving a society and infrastructure, air, water etc, a country expects its citizens to protect her land from the intruders. By giving bread and butter and an opportunity to grow and excel in life the employer expects his employees to obey his orders and work for the profit of the organization. Being a Human, we are expected to practice humanity in our behavior But then how many expectations are actually being fulfilled? One must not feel sad if certain expectations remain unfulfilled. When the Lagaan was chosen for the final of Oscars, it was expected to win, but lost. When Indian Cricket Team reached the finals of cricket world-cup they were expected to lift the cup but failed.
Expectations are a mode to move ahead in life, a source of motivation. I certainly will not do a thing if I am not expected to do it. Parents' expectations from their children are not a new thing at least in India. But the expectations must be based on reality, by analyzing the situations and circumstances. One must not say to their children that, you shall not do this thing or do that thing because I want it so. Parents must make expectations from a child by analyzing his or her capabilities. Not everyone can become doctor or engineer or Shahrukh Khan or Sania Mirza or Kiran Bedi. Therefore, they should not feel sad, if their expectations remain unfulfilled.
Every parent expects certain things from their children and I am not unique in that manner. When I was child my parents wanted me to be a doctor and hence I was admitted into science stream after my 10th Grade. It was the time when I was not sure as what I want in my life. I worked very hard for it, burned mid-night oil, but I failed. When I took admission in College, I found that there can be many other careers, than being a Doctor or an Engineer. Along with graduation I joined Diploma in Software Engineering. After completing my graduation I wanted to go for research in Genetics and/or Organic Chemistry, because those were the areas that actually fascinated me. I tried, this time with much more vigor and enthusiasm, but failed again. I was very disappointed. What then, that is the way life moves. I am very good in dealing with Human Beings and know how to take them along. I did my Masters in Business Administration with Specialization in Human Resources. Presently, I am excelling in this area, there is a long way to go and I don’t have much time. “ A young man in Hurry.”
Though I am still carrying this jinx of not fulfilling the expectations of my parents, but that is the way life moves. Some expectations are fulfilled and many others remain unfulfilled. Parents have the right to expect anything from their child but it must not be to do a particular thing or to excel in a particular field but to have a successful career and life in general.
With this thought I am closing for the day. Have a great day and week ahead.
Take care.
Looking forward for yourcomments.
Bye.

Life is but a stopping place,
A pause in what's to be,
A resting place along the road,
to sweet eternity.
We all have different journeys,
Different paths along the way,
We all were meant to learn some things,
but never meant to stay...
Our destination is a place,
Far greater than we know.
For some the journey's quicker,
For some the journey's slow.
And when the journey finally ends,
We'll claim a great reward,
And find an everlasting peace,
Together with the lord.
