Status issues have become very prevalent in the society. If you have a cycle you should work hard to buy a scooter. If you buy a scooter..thats a khatara....you should be going around in a car. Work hard for that. My problem is not about working hard. Is there an end to it. When I was going for a walk in university road I used to see ppl who were just bringing their car for a display to show it to their friends coming for a walk. Appreciation of the good you have gives you happinnes.When I buy a new dress and my friends give a complement to that I enjoy it.(Happinees is becauuse I am looking good in it).that doesnt mean that I should be spending all my life time hard work for that little happiness. (I know half of the peoples hobby is shopping, particularly Indians abroad. If one buys a camera with 100 pounds the other will buy it with 300 pounds only for a show off. He may have to stay there for a longer time to compensate to that.) I also get happy when I help an old woman to cross the road. I feel happy when I help somebody with the address.I also feel happy assisting an elderly man in the office in his work...I feel happy when taking care of my parents....I feel happy helping the new trainees with the project for no money...I also feel happy when advising a newly joined about something important in the office.If compared with this happiness how much is that happiness. I am not saying not to work hard and buy anything in market. You are also helping money flow. In this way you are helping the business men and also state which puts tax on it.But don't compete with each other in buying goods. Like one buys a cheap mobile. That might serve his needs. One buys a 2 GB computer that might serve his needs. The other one might need an imported mobile and a laptop. You have spent more money on that doesnt mean you should be laughing at the one who has a cheap one. He might not be buying that because he doesn't need it. You dont have to spend your hard earned money just for a show off. One travels thru a bus,the other thru his two wheeler ..you might be travelling thru car.But that doesnt mean you should be laughing at that person who travels thru bus.And also that you should not be expecting every body to be coming to office by car. These status issues are not found in American society...They are many times richer to us.Why should we have it..Just think. I am not asking you to ape them ofcourse. Just a comparison. Learning good from others.
