Vali in Ramayan
- Dr. kuchibhotla subrahmanyam subrahmanyam
  Page: 1 of 1
As you know, the sacred Epic of Sree Ramayan occurred way back of several thousads of years. The real story is only known to the great sages and the living god, Sree Rama bhaktha Hanuman. After the disappearance or niryana of Sree Ram and Lav and Kusha, there was a pralaya, similarly there was a pralaya at the end of dwapara yuga. Till eight hundred years back original Valmiki Ramayanam was available. Regarding Vali, he was a mighty vanara with unusual might and valour and great worshipper of Surya. He got kanchana mala which was very powerful. Because of its power no one can fight with him by going in front of him. If any one wants to fight with him from back ,his tail produces fire and it would kill them. He was given a yantram by Mathanga maharshi. Because of the power of the yantram, if any one tried to kill him when he was at sleep, sounds would be produced and vali immediately wakes up to fight. When actually the fight began, Sree Ramachandra astonished as how a perfect Dharama yudha was going on between two brothers. He gave instructons to all the vanaras to be away for some yojanas from the fight site because of the fear that they might be trapped in the energy sphere and killed. He also asked Jambavan, Hanuman and Lakshmana to go either side of the earth for balancing purpose. Rama did not interfere as long as the fight was going on as per dharma. Though he knew everything, he just thought in his mind about sage Viswamitra and questiond him. ’O sage why should I kill Vali? Why not I have a friendship with vali to get back my Sitha?’ Reply by viswamitra, 'Rama! There was some dictum regarding participation in rama karya. The younger brothers were unfit as long as eldeder brother was alive. Sugriva was given KIRANASTRA by Surya Bhagavan. This astra would absorb any mayastras from Ravana. But Vali did not possess this astra. Hence he would be attracted towards Ravana and once he would be with Ravana, even Rama could not win over Ravana'. These were the reasons that were responsible for Rama to kill vali from behind a tree. While the fight was going on, the ‘gada’ of sugriva fell down. As the temper was high, ferocious Vali could not see this and about to smash the head of sugriva who was without weapon. Then only Rama used his powerful Rama bana to kill Vali. Further Vali and Sugriva are monkey warriors. If Rama went directly to fight with Vali, Vali might even go to the extent of harming Rama. The fight was between Vali and Sugreeva. As per dharma, a third person like Rama should not interfere and kill Vali. Because of this Lord Narayana had to take another birth to be killed by the power of Vali. These details was narrated by a Mahatma in Madanapalle.
