Everyone seeks peace and harmony. When one is agitated, misery is not limited to oneself. Agitation permeates atmosphere around a miserable person. Everyone in contact is affected. This is no way to live. After all humans are social. They need to deal with others. When one is agitated you need to know reasons to come out.
Negativity and impurity cannot exist with peace and harmony. How does one generate negativity? By investigating, it becomes clear you are unhappy when someone behaves in a way you don't like. Unwanted things happen and tension is created within. Wanted things do not happen. So how are you not to react blindly with things you don't like? How to remain peaceful and harmonious?
In India and other countries, saintly persons studied this problem and found a solution: if something unwanted happens and one reacts by generating anger, fear or negativity, one should divert attention to something else. For example, get up, take a glass of water-anger will not multiply and you'll be coming out of of it. Start counting: one, two, three, four. Or repeat a word, phrase or mantra. This solution was helpful: it worked. It still works. Practicing this, the mind feels free from agitation.
