Meera sends a message to Ameer asking him to return, now that Rajeswari has obliged him by undergoing abortion. Rajeswari is apprehensive that she will be jolted into wakefulness from the sweet dream involving Meera and her. Meera has by now occupied every inch of her being. She feels extremely grateful to him for all that he has done for her and seems to love him out of gratitude. She even asks him once, point blank, if he desires her physically but tells him in the same breath that she absolutely belongs to Ameer. She asks him this intriguing question merely to please him and not because she is sexually attracted to him.
Although Meera himself has invited Ameer back to the “maidanam” he now has many misgivings. He wonders how Ameer would react to his “affair” with Rajeswari. He fears that Ameer would harm her but he is determined to protect her.
Ameer returns after a gap of four months. Surprisingly, he pays no attention to Rajeswari’s great sacrifice and suffering but is concerned about her physical appearance! He neither discloses her where he has been all these months nor wants to know what she has been doing. Still, they fall back into their routine soon enough.
Rajeswari’s heart aches for Meera. After Ameer’s return, he has kept himself away for a whole week. He finally comes but during the absence of Ameer. From this point onwards Meera’s behaviour is surreptitious and secretive. He has been waiting for three days and nights behind the bushes for meeting Rajeswari alone. He declares that he cannot bear her separation any longer and accuses her of not wanting to see him and of reserving no place for him in her heart. But by allowing him to place flowers in her hair she sets his doubts at rest. She loves both of them, albeit in different ways.
