Articles: My Experience | Blood Donation - Ms. Sowmya V.B.
| |
A few people were roaming there. a man was standing outside the room. 2,3 people were sitting in the first room. I approached the man standing and told him why i came for. He directed me in to the room. There was an old lady sitting there. As soon as i entered the room, she came running towards me and asked with lot of anxiety-'to whom are you giving your blood?' taken aback by this question, i answered - ' to none. I just came seeing the paper news'.
She immedietly said-'please give it to me. i'll remain indebted to you forever....' as she was saying all those words all too mightier for me, i was wondering.....'she dont even know what group is mine....yet..she is so desparate.....' unable to contain my curiosity, i asked her - 'which blood group do u need?' She said -'B+'. Yes, thats mine...i thought. So, without second thoughts, i said -'i'll give it to you'.
This moment was one of the most touching moments of my life. That look which that lady gave me........i can never forget it. She literally folded her hands and wished me-'thank you....i can never forget what u did'. I was over-awed. I didnt know how to respond.
Well, what followed later was what is expected to happen. I went in, gave blood, came out. As I sat in their rest room and sipped the cup of juice they gave me, my mind began thought processes again......the posters pasted there, showing the importance of Blood Donation and exhorting people to donate blood made me feel very emotional. I thought i should propagate the message among people. Hey, blood donation can save a life. You are not a doctor. yet, you can help in saving a life.
The person for whom this old lady asked me to give blood was a 20 year old young lady, whom i presume to be her grand daughter. Well, i dont say I and only I saved that lady..for i know what quantity of blood they took from me.i never saw that old lady again for she rushed in a hurry to attend to that patient. But, the fact that that old lady was searching for B+ blood for the past 12 hours made me feel so satisfied with what i did. That day, i understood the value of life. i understood this slight demarcation between life and death. I explored a possibility to stand between death and a person...and possibly give him/her a new whiff of life.
Well, this write-up may not be well-etched enough to draw crowds in to blood-donation for i am not very good at urging people in to doing something. However, I hope the message of blood donation spreads among us all and i hope no person should die for want of blood in future. For those who are afraid, my experience is what i can say.....even i was afraid....infact so afraid that the first time i gave blood, the nurse there felt it very difficult to take it from me......the second time, i went in and did it confidently.
We lose nothing..gain something which no amount of money can give........which may not be possible for us to do in other ways......so, people, let us donate blood..save lives.
