Gambling, Lies, Prostitution & Drugs/Alcohol

It seems everybody knows that prostitutes are there in the society. I have nothing against women. Nothing! A gambler who lost his pay check in a card game over a couple of rounds of whiskey apparently always saves money to visit an errmm...girl. He doesn't have the guts to go home to his wife and face her. What if there isn't a girl to go to. What would he do? Spend that saved away stash on gambling too? But, would he go home safer? You bet he does. Forget about the minor STD's, India according to a recent survey would be the country with the largest number of AIDS patients within the next few years. Should you be scared? I think I would be if I were you. ( Again, this is a topic for another page and another time ). Now, I am not saying all customers of prostitutes, are gamblers. I am saying the chance of this occurring increases. Are all customers drunk? Again, I don't know the answer. All I can say is the chance of that increases. If you did not want to tell your spouse where you spent the night, you would just brush her off, or put her through a web of lies. A man might not give a woman enough credit, but she is aware of what exactly goes in in the mans brain. He might be the smartest guy in the whole wide world, but his wife would outsmart him because SHE IS LIVING WITH HIM. The best way a marriage is successful is by co-operation and honesty. If you take either of that away, the marriage would be in shambles. The moment the lies start increasing, the womens persistence to know the truth also increases. She would frustrate him endless to make him give up the habit. But.. this only drives him further and further away, once he is hooked into the girl, the alcohol bug, and the cards. The reasons for this might be many. Peer pressure, lower income - higher expenditure, unable to keep up with the escalating costs daily, no means of generating funds for kids education, crops failing, etc. These are a few reasons that might drive a man to alcohols grasp. Do I have a solution for this? Actually no. But do I have a solution to control alcohol? Yes, I do. If everybody knew prostitution was legal, why isn't the government doing anything about it? If everybody knew alcohol kills, then why isn't the government concerned about putting a stoppage to habitual drinkers? As for drugs, I don't know any illegal industry shrewder than the drug industry in evading cops, and manipulating politicians. Every year people do taxes, which means they are declaring what they are making. Most the of the people prefer to stay in houses that they are comfortable living in. Which means the average times a household moves is kind of less. There are only a few alcohol outlets in a locality. And usually only a few bars that people tend to frequent to. What I would propose is every person above 25 ( Yes, 25 should be the legal age to drink. I consider below 25 to be minor as you don't realise in depth how evil alcohol is ) should be registered in an alcohol outlet store, and a bar. He should be given a limit of say 5 % of his annual salary, or 10,000 Rupees or whichever is lower ( From the taxes ) on his alcohol purchase power. He cannot purchase alcohol at any locations he is not registered. And, once his purchase power expires he cannot under any circumstances purchase nor drink alcohol in that calender year. What this would do is put a sense of responsibilty in both the alcohol seller and the alcoholic. If you are selling poison, you should be held accountable for it. If you are drinking something that might bring the demon out of you, then the demon has to be leashed too. In similar regards, prostitution should be made legal. The reason is if I had to chose between death and a divorce, I chose divorce. What I mean by this is, if you know that sex with a prostitute is going to give you an STD that you will pass on to your innocent wife, I rather want you to make that sex legal, and risk the marriage to fail, than you killing people with the STD. Make no mistake about something, would I love to see prostitution disappear? Absolutely. But is it feasible? Maybe not now. The way I look at it, AIDS test costs money. Who would have the most use for Aids tests? Would yo agree that it would be the people who are having sex with multiple partners? Which means Indians are paying their taxes that goes into facilities like this. Now, what if these institutions are run with the money that is collected from the people who practice that? In other words, collect taxes from the prostitute ( In this case, a sex worker ). Make the worker accountable for all sexual activity. The customer pays state tax to have sex, and the worker pays tax on her income. The customer has to show identification, give his address, takes a protective device and pay for the sex. He has to show the used protective device at the end of the transaction. This would ensure that the sex worker is clean. The sex worker should be checked for STD's frequently. If she is infected, all the customers she had sex with recently, should be informed, and they MUST undergo the same tests along with their other partner(s), that they pay for. This should be the money that should go into AIDS research. Not the hard earned money from regular human beings. As for drugs, hmmmmz. You can preach about alcohol, but you know where they get alcohol. So, you can keep a check. You know where the prostitutes are. But, do you know where the drugs come from? They come from your classmate, your cricket team member, your brother, heck, even your father. How do you put an end to this? The ONLY way is word of mouth. The only way to fight this evil is to educate people about it. There are so many commercials in the states about drugs. They are done by NGO's that truly care about fellow human beings. They give an example as to how a life was ruined by drugs within no time. This is the philosophy that has to be adopted even in India. -- Note: There is a difference between amateur gamblers and professional gamblers. The gambling in this essay refers to only amateur gamblers. The reason why professional gamblers are referred to as such is because they make money at the expense of, yes you guessed it right, amateur gamblers. Gambling as such is a profitable industry. Unlike the other industries where you get something in return for the money put into ( A car, or a radio ) in gambling on any given night you might lose 100% investment without any return. -- I will stop this here. This has become quite long.
