Having said all this, I feel highly proud of the children born and brought up in India. They are really far more better in their cultural values and attitudes. They do give respect to elders and parents and the moment you see an Indian boy or girl greeting with respect 'Namaste Unlce' and the modesty in them is well reflected in their behaviour. Here sometimes, we do find some deviations. Some children who are born and brought up in foreign culture think that they are something really really great and try to look down upon others with their arrogance and try to show-off. Again, it is not their fault. It is the parents who have to inculcate good habits in chidlren from the beginning. There is a saying in telugu. 'Anne Unnamma Anigi Manigi Untundi. Emi Lenamma Egiregiri padtundi'. Exactly the same. A person who is learned and knowledgeable sometimes look simple. So, here I would like to bring in the fact that India has everything one should feel proud of. I got an e-mail from someone which is really thought provoking and we all Indians should really retrospect and try to build stronger India directly or indirectly. Though people realise the fact that they are definitely on wrong side, they take solace in just talking things bad about India all the time. Again it is the media which highlights only negative aspects of the society and not the positive ones. In which culture we see 'Athidhi devo Bhava' concept. We Indians first treat our guests as God. Whereas people in western culture do think twice even to spend a dollar for their own kith and kin. Our Indian culture always teaches us and we also derive pleasure in giving or helping others who are in need. So, the following speech which was e-mailed to me I would like to share with you all and I feel this is time for all of us for introspection of what we are doing and what we should do. 'A SPEECH FROM PRESIDENT ABDUL KALAM... message: a speech when president came to hyderabad in a function. Why is the media here so negative? Why are we in India so embarrassed to recognize our own strengths, our achievements? We are such a great nation. We have so many amazing success stories but we refuse to acknowledge them. Why? We are the first in milk production. We are number one in Remote sensing satellites. We are the second largest producer of wheat. We are the second largest producer of rice. Look at Dr. Sudarshan, he has transferred the tribal village into a self-sustaining, self-driving unit. There are millions of such achievements but our media is only obsessed in the bad news and failures and disasters. I was in Tel Aviv once and I was reading the Israeli newspaper. It was the day after a lot of attacks and bombardments and deaths had taken place. The Hamas had struck. But the front page of the newspaper had the picture of a Jewish gentleman who in five years had transformed his desert into an orchid and a granary. It was this inspiring picture that everyone woke up to. The gory details of killings, bombardments, deaths, were inside in the newspaper, buried among other news.
