After becoming elders both the children will get married. The daughter got married with a specific standard in her mind and left for her family of procreation. The son brings a women to his house who already has come with a different set of standards in her mind. If the standards mismatch between any two, there will be friction. Fixing a price or value for son or daughter is a standard that may not get satisfied by any newly wed partner. Partner or partner’s family may demand more and more to satisfy the standards of their own. That demand may be severe and may lead to violence.
Every family is part and parcel of the society that has different standards. Sometimes, it is difficult guess the standards of the newly wed partner’s family. Because of the standards are related to mind. Few standards appear to the naked eye. Most of the people try to guess the standards of others by observing their material wealth, sometimes by conversing with the people. In many cases the guess fails.
These standards change with the acquitance of property, knowledge, friends’ circle, neighbours etc. And people always try to satisfy the standards throughout their life, often seldom compromise. Uncompromising attitude regarding the standards is hallmark of human mind. That’s why there is expansion of needs and material life in human life. As the wife or womaen is younger, she standardizes her surroundings early as her senses are saturated after marriage. Saturated means her all the senses that includes does sex, cooking, interior decorating etc will be saturated in her family. Husband or man being older, standardize latter than his wife. That’s why he appear so dynamic and dominate within the family. May be this is the reason men appear progressive in many cases, and women appear culturally conservative. It is the reason that women are considered as backbone of culture or civilization as her standardization occurred relatively earlier than men. It is because of her attitude or standards the love, humanity, relationships, several social customs exist. It is women who acts effective check to the social change if that change is baneful or beneficial. We can deduce that it is the women who are at the threshold of social change. If she changes the cultura changes.
It is because of this standardization of senses in relation to the cultural ethos and edos, it is herculian task to eradicate several social evils. With the advantage of relatively later standardization, it is the men who were social reformers in any society. Ex: .Mr.Roy, Mr.Sagar, Mr.Phule, Mr.Pantulu etc. Hence, may be due to this reason, Vivekananda advocated against the saturation of senses.
But, it’s a matrix. Few people can escape from it.
