Swami says “Education is for life, not for a living.” Higher Learning at the Sri Sathya Sai Institute, as some may assume, is not the materialistic education but a life long opportunity to learn to LIVE life, rather than to drag life in this Institute as students. This forms the basis for our spiritual lives. Where in this modern world do we find students chanting Mantras and offering food to God before eating? Where in the dictionary of ‘College’ or ‘University’ do we not find the word ‘ragging’ except in His Institutions? Where in the world do we find the senior students shower their love on the incoming students instead of ragging? Where in the world do we find students revering their teachers and serving staff? Where do we find students who regard and value every word they utter? I can’t think of another place in today’s world where we may find students who live their lives based on the Vedic wisdom:
Sathyam vada (Thou shall speak the Truth)
Dharmam Chara (Thou shall tread upon the path of Righteousness)
Matru Devo Bhava (Revere Thy Mother as God)
Pitru Devo Bhava (Revere Thy Father as God)
Acharya Devo Bhava (Revere Thy Teacher as God)
Athiti Devo Bhava (Revere Thy Guest as God)
The culture and ambience in the Sai institute is all-embracing and open-minded. Swami taught us in practice the ‘Unity of Religions.’ We sing the glory of all the forms of God. Jesus, Allah, Rama and Buddha are the same to Sai students. We realize that various religions are mere paths to reach only and only Supreme Being called ‘God.’ New Year is celebrated all over the world with noise surrounding each heart. But the New Year in this Institute commences with singing the glory of God, with a resolution to give up one bad habit. Self improvement and personal development are the key ingredients to self-transformation. Swami’s institutes truly live up to His motto that “The End of Education is Character.”
