Food Processing:
Advances in food processing (such as manufacture of sugar, condiments and edible oils) took place as did the manufacture of personal hygiene products and beauty aids (such as shampoos, deodorizers, perfumes and cosmetics).
Indian technology imported by England
- Clothing: British imported cotton cloth technology (spinning, weaving, dyeing etc).
- Construction: Building technology was highly developed by experts in Vastu-sastra and those who constructed tanks and irrigation channels and maintained them. Having been impressed by this technology, British imported it.
- Ice: Around 1770 it was found that ice was manufactured from water by a man-made process in the Allahabad region. Ice was made in India from water in the early 7th Century A.D. This is referred to in the Harsha-Charitra by the great poet Bana Bhatta.
- Plastic Surgery: Dr. Carpue of London was able to build up the technique of a new plastic surgery derived and based on the Indian method by the year 1810.
Indian surgeons also became proficient at the repair of noses, ears and lips lost or injured in battle or by judicially mandated mutilation. By the 1st C. AD the foundations of this rather evolved medical system were in place and by the 4th Century much of this knowledge was standardized and available in the classical textbooks of Charaka and Susruta.
Progress in medicine also led to developments in chemistry and chemical technologies. The manufacture of alkaline substances, medicinal powders, ointments and liquids was systematized, as were chemical processes relating to the manufacture of glass.
- Agriculture Technology: Similarly the practices of Indian agriculture were described to London from various areas, and some Indian tools, particularly drill ploughs, were sent to Britain to help improve the British agricultural implements, all in the later part of the 18th century.
- Cement: By the 7th century, cement of highly durable quality came into use in the construction of important monuments that survive to this day.
Other great Indian inventions:
Chess:
Chess, one of the most intelligent games on earth is considered as a game with art and science incorporated into one. It originated in India around roughly the 600 AD in the form of Shatranj or Astha Pada.
