Articles: TP Features | Organic Farming Outsourcing - Mr. Maharshi Pragna

Educated Indians who felt it is humiliating to do agriculture will in the future go back to it because it will be a lucrative market and unlike IT and other high-tech industries, this market is not volatile.
Where does India stand now?
I thought of avoiding this topic because it is humiliating to see where India stands in comparison with other nations. But then, I thought, we should know our status. Despite being geographically one of the largest nations and second highest population in the world (most of which is dependent on agriculture) and as a nation that developed organic farming into a science in the past, it is appalling to know that we are in the 32nd position as far as land area under organic management is concerned.
While our neighbour, the tiny little Bangladesh has 1,77,700 organic hectares, India has just 76,326 organic hectares. Argentina, which is not even equivalent to the size of Andhra Pradesh state has 2.8 million organic hectares.
As far as land area under organic management in percent of total agricultural area is concerned, India is in the 80th position. While Estonia, an east European nation, which is as impoverished as India, has 4.59% of total agriculture area under organic management, India has an abysmal 0.05%. Even Sri Lanka and Pakistan are ahead of us with 0.65% and 0.08% respectively.
