Articles: TP Features | A Lesson for Everyone - Mr. Sreenivas YL

Shri Chandrababu Naidu and other TDP leader during the entire course of the election campaign were insisting over the consistent policy towards naxalites. Further, Chandrababu Naidu himself had said that all the political parties must have consensus while dealing with terrorists or naxalites. The TDP lost its Home Minister because of the naxalites and TDP supremeo himself escaped the attack by a miracle. The party with suffered the naxal violence and which is aware of brutal policies of naxalites today calls the encounter fake. Such statements from a responsible political party impact the morale of the police forces. There could have been some encounters which were fake in the past but the present encounter by all means looks a fair one. The TDP’s response showcases its anxiety to oppose whatever the government does right or wrong becoming completely oblivious of its own position. Along side, the response of media both electronic and print to this incident raises some questions. Media hype with banner items in print media for three-four days and hour long bulletins in electronic media almost bordered a kind of Hero worship which could influence the youngsters into a wrong cause. Such an incident does get media attention but Media itself must have some self-regulations reporting stories about the organizations which preach violence.
The J&K incidents, the Mumbai incident, the Errabolu incident and the recent Nalamala incident offer many lessons to all of us- the Civil society, the political parties, the media and the government. Terrorism is a monster and violence has no room in democratic polity. We are an independent nation and we must learn to behave in a more matured way in tackling violence and terrorism. Inconsistent policies of the government, inconsistent stances of political parties, irresponsible coverage of media, and apathetic civil society only breed terrorism and society as a whole will pay heavy price. The recent incidents once again emphasize the imperative of forging national consensus at least on issues of terrorism and violence.
