Wisdom Services Economy – it can be a panacea for India! Let’s first look at a few myths about India: - Overpopulation is the cause of India’s poverty: A myth. It is poverty that causes overpopulation. Poor parents are more likely to give birth to more children because only when all the children work they can make both the ends meet. If Indian leadership can fully and effectively utilize India’s vast and vibrant natural and human resources, present population will be a boon rather than a bane. - Uneducated population is the cause of India’s backwardness: A myth. Majority of India’s uneducated people are skilled at agriculture, some trade or work. On the other hand, a vast educated population is unskilled or under-skilled. Education does not necessarily teach skills and wisdom. Even industrialized nations such as UK and the USA have not become industrialized solely due to educated people. It is the entrepreneurial spirit, creative and innovative aptitude and the burning desire to achieve unique things coupled with skills that played a major role in their development than education per se. - Rural workforce is left behind in job market due to lack of English knowledge: A myth. In fact, barring English, rural workforce, in general has more and better skills than the educated urban population. Indian industrialists are causing self-damage by making English a prerequisite for employment. If English were a prerequisite for progress, nations such as Japan, Germany, France and many other Western nations would have never been able to become industrially developed nations. A look at the world history reveals the fact that as of now, no nation or workforce in the world is left behind due to the lack of a certain foreign language. The reality is while the skills of rural workforce are underutilized; the urban workforce is under-skilled. - Vast unskilled workforce is a reason why India is lagging behind: A myth. While it is true that skilled workforce is one of the prerequisites for economic competitiveness, considering the present Indian scenario, the real cause is the political, business and official leadership that is lacking the required skills, collective vision and commitment. Under-skilled and under-committed leadership is far more detrimental to the nation’s economy than unskilled workforce. - India is a poor, backward country and hence can never compete with developed economies: A myth. To compete with developed economies and succeed, what we require is not wealth but wisdom, vision, perseverance, passion, commitment etc. Corruption is the biggest blockade on the road to progress: A myth. While corruption is undoubtedly a blockade, it is the lack of collective vision, passion and commitment among the leadership and the population that is a bigger blockade on the road to progress. Even in developed economies, corruption does exist albeit not so rampant as in India.
