- Western nations don’t let countries like India surpass them in business: A myth. If Indians have the passion and perseverance to succeed and excel, then no nation in this world can stop them. A nation with self-esteem and confidence searches its own way forward.
- Outsourcing is here to stay in India: A myth. Western outsourcing projects have come to India due to certain advantages such as cost-benefits, cheaper labor etc. Once they find some other nation to be more lucrative (which is guaranteed to happen sooner or later), they are sure to migrate there. When they left their own nation in search of more profits, you can’t expect them to stay back permanently in a foreign nation.
- Outsourcing jobs are good for India’s growth: A myth. We have to separate the wheat from the chaff. Not all outsourcing contracts are good.
Outsourcing jobs, which help India to become an ‘Invention Hub’, are good for the nation rather than jobs that help us remain as a ‘Delivery Hub’ (the one India has now specialized in). Jobs where high-end skills, wisdom, creativity are required are always good for the long-term interests of the Indian economy, even if those jobs are ephemeral.
Western economies are aiming to dominate the Knowledge-Economy by adopting `We invent and they deliver’ strategy. As long as India does not specialize in becoming an ‘Invention Hub’, we can never lead the global economy.
- Because the developed economies are in control of the technology, India can’t win the competition: A myth. There are thousands of fields which don’t require any technological expertise. If Indians have the determination and the vision, they can always excel in non-technology fields. Even those fields where technological expertise is required, it is not an impossible task for the willing heart to acquire the expertise. Moreover, the more the present Knowledge-economy progresses and matures, the more Wisdom is required to lead it. Thankfully, to acquire wisdom one does not require any technology.
- Indians can never be global leaders like the Westerners: A myth. There is nothing pre-programmed in human genes that only Westerners can be global leaders and Indians can’t. It’s only that Indians have not tried to become global leaders.
