what model phone are u using,and t-mobile phones do work in india gsm network(but as i said depends on the phone u r using)they do not work in cdma network, u can try by getting a sprint phone unlocked and try to use that phone in india with bsnl and reliance networks(these 2 are cdma netqwork providers in india)
but if u r phone is compatible then they work fine in india.

actually there are 3 bands in gsm,900,1800 and 1900,europe and asia operate in 1800 and 900 and american in 1900.so some t-mobile phones are triband phones that means they work in all areas.but if u r buying a phone in t-mobile and want to use it in india then u need to look for a triband phone in t-mobile and also get the phone unlocked,so that it can operate in any area.cause they get locked if u operate a particula provider phone in another network.
but if i misunderstood the concept of both bands as in u r posting then let me know what u meant by both bands.
